I say he was falsely accused, we all know he would never ever do something stupid like that, he's much to prim and proper. Besides, it goes against everything he's ever taught us "make good choices", "act professional", "someone is always watching".

I'd trust him with my life, and if he says he didn't do it, he really didn't do it. no questions asked.

I think it's ridiculous that this much personal information was published in a newspaper about Mr. Nelson...it could have been anyone that this cop arrested, but God forbid you should be someone who works with kids and be in a city you don't even teach in and make a bad decision.

I believe this was uncalled for and should have been handled more privately - especially since he's a teacher. There was no need for such abrasive news coverage for such a small town.

This man has done great things for not only that program, but for the performers in WGI and DCI alike.
There was NO HARM done here as someone stated earlier.
Kids were and have always been safe under his care and direction.
We all make mistakes!
I fully supported Randy before and I will not turn my back on him now.
I was sad to hear that he resigned from his post as president. I hope he still makes a presence at WGI...it will not be the same without him

WE LOVE YOU RANDY!

My heart is broken if what I have read about Randy is true. Did he now step down as President of WGI. His vision and artistic genius has moved the Choctawhatchee band and WGI into two centuries. I am certain to my core that the allegations are completely false. Randy Nelson is a man of the strongest character and I believe this accusation to be entirely false!

i think that randy made a really bad decision and like anyone else who makes bad decisions needs to pay the price. i have known randy for over thirty years and this doesn't seem like something he would do but if he did he needs to be punished accordingly.

Randy Nelson has spent his life devoted to teaching children an appreciation for music. He devoted additional energy teaching children responsibility and an assortmant of values missing in many families. Although I graduated in 1992, I imagine these lessons have continued with the passing years. He enriched my life and I have carried the lessons he taught in many areas of life. I hope the Choctaw community is rallying around him, supporting him, during this difficult time. Time to pay it forward for all the sacrifices he made for the past 30+ years.

I think Randy is getting exactly what he deserves. Any teacher who commits such an act has no place around children. I know first hand Mr. Nelson has played political games in WGI, and I'm not surprised in the least by this. You reap what you sow. Karma Randy, Karma.

Sorry to disagree with most of you here but if he did this, he ought to be punished. People, it's wrong. What was he doing over there anyway. If it was innocent, he can throw the excuse on the table right now and walk away. He can't. He made the decision to do this and there are consequences to decisions. That is a lesson best learned while young. Obviously, some people haven't.
Who cares how much the band program grew under his leadership and how many lives he touched and help grow? Jimmy Ray Jones helped the band grow too but anyone who was under him can attest to his abusive style. Let's see, he taught us to game the band competitions, lied to judges in front of his trusted few, threw out all sorts of racist comments, played favorites in the band to the point of punishing some for doing the exact same as his unpunished favorites... In my time, if your name was Kelley, Budden, Frisch, Reinlie or Campbell (to name only a few) you got away with anything you could possibly want to do. Others doing the same weren't so lucky.
I know everyone saw that so it blows my mind when I read all the great things that JRay did for them and meant to them like he was some sort of god. Folks he was a nut. He murdered his wife. Do you need any more proof?
Grow up, people. This guy is a nut. He got what he deserved.

I totally disagree with you. People should know about this, especially since he is a teacher! Does anyone have any recent info on this?

Totally agree this guy got what he deserved. Agree with the comments about Jimmy Ray Jones. He was a little tyrant who was an abuser if not more. Loved being in the band but remember what a jerk he was to everyone but his chosen few. Man was wrapped just a little too tight and finally popped his cork....

People should really be careful about what they post about people on the internet. I am Jimmy Ray's eldest daughter. I do not like seeing my dad's name bad mouthed by anyone. He did wonders for the Stylemarchers. Yes he was tough, that is what made the band great.
I have let go what happened..and feel that all of you should do the same.

Randy did this not once but many times. Before this incident, he was told that if it happened again he would have to resign or be terminated in the school district. This is one example of a major character flaw and shows that he should not be in a leadership role, especially managing young people. Given what happened at Penn State I cannot believe that The University of Alabama would allow him to be on staff with the winterguard. From what I understand he had been on staff at U of A for one season before he was arrested. I am guessing that administrators up the chain have no idea or they would quickly ban him from campus. I encourage you to read the arrest report and the testimony of the officer. Make note of the Saturn rental car. He was known for using rental cars because the police began to keep an eye out for his vehicle. Disgraceful!

So it's true, eh? My band director is pretty ignorant. She thinks he was mistakenly accused. Some boys in guard said he would stare at them, and do other things (in the pants region) whilst looking at them. If he did indeed do it, he deserves every punishment that came his way. Sure, he writes great drill, but that doesn't make up for indecent exposure.
