Deputy in critical condition after hit by car while directing traffic

An Oconee County sheriff's deputy was critically injured this morning while directing traffic outside Oconee County Primary School, the sheriff's office said.

God Bless you, David. You are one of the funniest guys who spoke their mind anytime or any place. You made the world a safer place. Enjoyed the time we worked together and the fun you brought to some boring days in the academy.

David left behind alot of people who loved him and will always keep his memory alive forever. He did his job and protect Oconee County and did that not worrying about upseting people. He was a good officer and will be missed

David was my mentor when we worked together at CC jail, and I will miss him. If you did not know him, you missed a great person. I was proud to call him a friend. He helped keep Oconee Co. safe and will be very hard to replace as a deputy and never will be replaced as a person. RIP David.

David was a supporter of the Dove campaign and a dear friend.He was never afraid to voice his opinion and had a sense of humor that is unlike anyone that I've ever known.We will tell stories of him for years to come.Thank God for blessing anyone that had a chance to know him.We will miss you.

Why hasn't the woman who plowed into him been charged YET?
I can't imagine any circumstance where the driver would not be at fault.
I guarantee if I had been the driver, I'D be in jail.
Is she related to the mayor or what?

I agree with Rann, If this had been one of us we would be under the jail? What is there to investigate a very noble,kind man,father,husband lost his life to a driver of a vehicle who was to say the least was negligent in of all things a school zone. where is the problem or am i the only one missing something? I knew David and admired him greatly? I would like to have some answers !!!

It is really none of your business! The GSP and Oconee County sheriff's office is handling it - so you just go back to your little job - and worry about that. BTW, she did not PLOW into him - there were circumstances involved that prove it was a plain and simple accident.

It is really none of your business! The GSP and Oconee County sheriff's office is handling it - so you just go back to your little job - and worry about that. BTW, she did not PLOW into him - there were circumstances involved that prove it was a plain and simple accident. I'm sure if the authorities feel like they need your help, PROBABLY NOT!- then they will dial you up! Get a life.

Where has this proof come from? For Deputy Gilstrap to have been injured so severely speed would surely have been a contributing factor.

Where has nba gotten this information? Does nba know the results of this investigation? Is nba part of this investigation? With the comments made that is what it sounds like.

It is really hard to believe that with the severity of Deputy Gilstraps injuries speed surely would have been a contributing factor.

Speed doesn't have to be a factor... You get hit by a 2000 pound car going 5 mph and tell me how it feels.
