This case is awful, and I mean for Andrew. I have more to read on this case, but my opinion at this point is this woman is guilty and should remain in prison. She had formal training as some kind of nurse, which in my book, should have told this woman when that little boy started showing distress, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO THE ER IMMEDIATELY. Didn't the father state at one time they waited because of the bruising on Andy and were afraid they would lose their other children? I read where they are trying to say now that the little boy ingested all that salt on his own. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? A four year old ingesting at least 18 teaspoons of salt?
Didn't their own children, before everyone had a chance to make up cover stories and "warn" the children about mommy going to jail and getting into trouble, tell that this was an often form of punishment and that Andrew was in trouble all the time? Didn't they say he was forced "too pee and poop" in his own bed? Good grief.
As usual the guilty tend to eventually hide behind religion. I do not believe that GOD thinks what this woman did was ok. If she were punishing children by making them drink cajun spice for ANY REASON, she has no business with children. Her family history is interesting, no does not make her guilty, but sure explains alot, doesn't it?
Hannah had received EMT training 10 years before this happened. Had to believe she "didn't know what was happening". It's also interesting that she giggled not only when police interviewed her but giggled again when she was on the witness stand recalling what happened. If she is as ignorant as she and her lawyers want us to believe, how could she homeschool any of the 5 children in that house. Oh, and by the way, the adoption had not been finalized. Hey, NOYB how's that for sources and facts!

CORRECTION: Hard to believe she "didn't know what was happening".

She was giggling? Why does it seem that those involved in cult like activities always home school their children?

What about the accusations of her own children? Have they come up with some excuse for that?

I haven't read or heard anything concerning her birth children. I do know the doctors and ME (who I know personally) say his body was covered in bruises, scratches, etc. I want to know how they can explain away the head injury (attributed to blunt force trauma). I am concerned if the remaining 5 children are with Larry Overton. He was given probation (I think he should be found guilty as a accomplice). If he didn't participate, then he sure watched the whole thing.

Interesting ignorant comment by a supporter of Hannah Overton.

"If I were Larry Overton, I would be investigating WHY CPS placed this child in his home, thus endangering the welfare of Andrew, his wife, himself, and his children - WHEN there WAS local family capable of caring for Andrew. IF CPS purposefully neglected to place Andrew in the home of his grandparents - they need to be held accountable for Andrew’s death."

As typical in these types of cases, let's not place any burden of responsibility on the person in charge of the care of the child and/or that was with the child, but lets blame anyone and everyone else we can and draw attention away from the facts of the case. Blame CPS becuas they didn't place the child with the grandparents? WOW. They didn't place the child with the grandparents, the one grandmother they had concerns of her ability in some areas of caring for Andrew properly. Why didn't the former foster mom of this little boy know or state that he had all these problems, diseases, illnesses, etc?? Because they don't exist and she had no trouble with this child? He was with the Overtons approx. 4 months and was dead.
RIP Andres
You are safe in the arms of our Lord now.

It was totally nauseating to see the "Free Hannah" crap (bumper stickers, a web site being advertised on poster board signs). Granted the "sightings" were few and far between but one was too many for me. If ignorance is bliss then the Overton's and their sice, twisted supporters must be one happy lot. Hope they enjoy it now. A harsh judgement day is coming and it will be worse than anything they encounter here on earth.

This woman is a "child collector" I've seen them at my childrens various activities ,they like the attention. It isnt about liking kids , "Foster" moms who take in WAYYYY too many kids. More than they can handle. Then try to home school, go to some bizarre church, ect, ect , she reminds me of one out here in Flour Bluff in partcular ,, the kids are miserable there too.
With all her birth kids she shouldnt have been allowed to take in any more ,, thats too many and it results in crap like this .
Furthermore ,,if she didnt know that those actions wouldnt result in something terrible happening then she doesnt even need to own a pet much less care for a child... of course she is responsible ... who else is to blame. You??,, me??? the mayor?? the cops?? her church?? all the people here on topix??

RIP, you are exactly right. Hannah Overton is hiding behind her religion. This little boy was treated horribly. I wish this never would have happened. By all truthful accounts, Andrew Burd was a sweet and smart little boy. LOADS of documentation to back this up.

Hannah Overton placed Andrew in harm's way by her odd punishments: making him sleep on exterior plywood, not letting him eat 3 meals a day (he lost 2 lbs with the Overtons and he was only in the 50 percentile to begin with), causing him to fall on a concrete sidewalk, making him drink hot pepper spice mixed only with water from a tumbler. Watching him die for 2 hours- shock, struggling to breathe, drifting in and out of consciousness. To not proseucte Hannah Overton would have been unconscionable. Hannah Overton should not hide behind her religion. A whole team of heroic Doctors testified at trial who actually had knowledge of the case. The media should not rip apart two wonderful jurors by grilling them for 3 hours and only playing 10 seconds of what the jurors had to say. You owe an apology to the jurors who did their civic duty.
We love you Andrew

She did giggle during her police interview the night of the murder. Not one tear. The paramedics and nurses noticed the same thing. Hannah Overton didn't care about Andrew. Hannah Overton wasn't bothered at all. She only started crying after the conviction. She should win an Oscar.

The church martyred Hannah Overton. How sick. Hannah Overton need to do the right thing and admit to all of her cult supporters what she did. Hannah needs to admit to giving Andrew a full cup of zatarains mixed only with water and making him drink it. That's what Hannah Overton admitted to the ICU Critical Care Doctor the night of the murder.

Hannah's church is identified as Calvery Chapel of the Coastlands a non-denominational evangelical church on the southside of Corpus Christi (Rodd Field Road, I think). The Pastor is Rod Carver, a native of California, who claims to have accepted God while on a surf trip/competition at Padre Island. I found this information on the churches website (search Calvery Chapel of the Coastlands) along with alot more. Sounds as though it does have the makings of a cult. From some of the postings on the "free Hannah" website by her so called "church family" members, they seem to put the blame everywhere except where it belongs - on Hannah and Larry Overton. Let me know what your takes are about the church.

I heard from reliable sources that Reverand Otis, whose on the Free Hannah Overton website, sent threatening mail telling others they would burn in Hell and the wrath of God would fall on them for doing their job and being involved in the trial of Hannah Overton. Real nice.
