Isn't the problem the fact the taxes weren't paid or filed for 3 years? How did this make it to a fist to cuffs between these people and those people? Since I don't work or volunteer there I am not going to make any individual judgements but there are better ways to handle disputes and conflict then airing it out to the public all the time. If someone isn't living up to his/her responsibility then they should be held accountable and take responsibility period. Instead of looking for blame look for a solution. My worries lie with the ones who'll pay the price the animals.

Hi Confused

There are a core group of us who are not so foolish to think we'd make a point by not showing up anymore. Of course, we'll fight it out for them.

This blog really is sad to read, it sounds like a bunch of people who are just jumping on the band wagon in the charade of caring, I for one am involved with the shelter. The shelter is a great place, and it has much potential. There are many dedicated hard working people who donate their time, money and products, ect..The shelter director has done many great things for the animals, but she was very lax in management, and the fiscal affairs of our non profit organization. She spent a vast majority of her time in the spay/nueter clinic thus all the other areas suffered. People were allowed to loath off on the job, the volunteers were forced to pick up the slack or the animals would have suffered. I'M SAD THIS NEW LEADERSHIP WAS NOT GIVEN A CHANCE! I feel the shelter will cary on new people and management. I'ts nice to learn we have some money, but i must ask myself why were things left unfixed for so long, there was no process in place.Part of the problem Barb spent all her time in the clinic, not a directors job (maybe she should become a vet tech). Now she and Dr Milot can open up a new clinic, once again Barb will be doing a vet tech job.She never was director material,
always an animal care giver. So you want to know why things failed ? Barb
has ideas, no one else can have input. It is best she is on her own, she is very difficult to get along with, friends one day, next day your mud under her feet. The center will do well under new direction, and i will be there to see the light at the end of this dark tunnel. It's ashame that there are small minded people-we are here to care for the animal, and find forever homes for them. Just to let you all know board members resigned because many i believe felt Barb was not going to be a team player, and look, they we correct. Why would everyone go to the newspaper with this sob story. There is 2 sides to every story. The board handled this situation with dignity, unlike Barb, she got Robin, her partner to get the lynch mob-Robin and Barb did not need to say anything at the meeting their mob did all the yelling. Robin had meetings with the shelter staff saying the board will crack under the pressure. The press will work for them. Just remember there is two sides to every story-I know what goes on there. How many people do you that in some capacity worked for the shelter and left because of Barb-many,
endless years of people scared away, so sad. Good luck, Barb. Monroe county
he she comes!
"Dumb founded", I feel like you are speaking for me. I also left because of the mismanagement and Barb's inability to make you feel like your contributions were vital to the operation. I have since volunteered my time with other rescue groups. I hated leaving the animals but when you see stuff being done inefficiently and people slacking off It gets upseting. I believe that this place has alot of potential and has done alot for animals. I will give that to Barb. She did the best she could for the animals and that should be the priority. But the proper management of your staff and resources, paying of the bills, and positive customer services are also important.

I cannot believe the hurtful statements being said! Why are you forecasting a terrible future for this shelter? While I understand Barb was a wonderful asset to the shelter and gave her every bit for the animals, her position as Executive Director for the shelter was too much for one person to take on alone. She was doing a wonderful job making sure the animals were completely taken care of, but lacking in making sure the shelter was being taken care off from the business aspect. Why not hire a business manager, and put her in charge of her passion---to take the absolute best care of the animals? After dissecting the past couple of Morning Call articles (because this is now a spectacle), it appears she doesnít want to split her position. Well Iím sorry, but I agree with the board demoting her. As executive director for the shelter, you are responsible for the animals AND business. While she excelled clinically with the animals, she failed to keep up with business.
If you donít do your job, your WHOLE job, you will have to accept the consequences.
Contrary to what a lot of you believeÖBarb is not the end all of this shelter. It will not crumble now that she's not there. I wish her luck in her new endeavor. The shelter will succeed without her (and with its No Kill philosophy!).
Very well written and to the point. Perhaps if someone was in charge who was on top of stuff around there and cheerful to be around, volunteers like myself who left would be glad to come back.
Please help

I love the shelter and all the animals in it. I am so sad at all of these recent events with noone knowing the full story. I have actually volunteered at the center and I know full well the hard work those people do everyday. I know Barb and it makes me sick that certain people are berating her for working at the clinic or the tax return problem. I am sure we are not getting the full story on the taxes. And as for Barb working in the clinic, it is only on days that a staff member called off or they need help. I think it is a great leader who can humble herself to do the dirty work instead of sitting in an office making phone calls. Dr. Milot and Barb are trying to better this shelter and the lives of all the animals that pass through it. Please voice your opinions, Haytmanek and the other board members should step down and let new people, people who know how to let the director do his/her job. Please Dr. Milot and Barb cannot go. This is a disaster!

Friday night and who are the last ones still at the shelter hours after everyone has left, still caring for the animals, Barb and Dr. Milot. Enough said.

All I can say is that we just celebrated the 3 year anniversary of our dog we adopted from the shelter- the sweetest boy on Earth. Had no problems with Barb or any of the staff.

Sorry to hear about this turmoil.

The law mandates that the "treasury of the board of directors" is responsible for the filing. Furthermore it is illegal for an employee to do the filing. It must be the treasury. For Haytmanek to state otherwise shows his lack of knowledge, at the very least. The guy just doesnít have a clue.
Show where you find your information. I am interested to know.
Thank you.

Google some of the more high profile NK pusher's names - along with the words "Akc" - "breeder" - "breed" - "Hsus" - "Peta" - "pet overpopulation is a myth" - "pit bull" - "Ckc" - "Ukc" .....

You'll discover just how many of these NKers are connected, directly or indirectly, with the animal USE industry. The animal use NK agenda appears to be against MSN, increased humane laws/ordinances, claim pet overpopulation is just a myth, and seem to spend an incredible amount of time verbally smearing Hsus, Aspca and Peta - not to mention small local true humane animal rescues.

It appears to be a well oiled movement of the dog breeding industry to take over the true humane animal welfare community. Once they get a foothold in the door, they begin writing and re-writing the local ordinances to favor the breeders, as well as attempting to get true humane persons to quit or get them fired - from staff to the board. Need proof? Look no further than Los Angeles Animal Services - their Director is a breeder and ..... well, Google and read about the mess going on out there.

Spread the word to alert as many of the TRUE humane orgs as you can. Hsus and Peta are already aware - and the animal use NKers continue to bash both of these humane orgs. It appears to be a coup to try to defund, discredit and bring down the true animal welfare orgs.

GOOGLE... the info is there if you take the time to research.
