Full story: The Morning Call

First of all, I did not elect MADD to represent me nor do I pay taxes to them. I do not want to pay more in taxes so that Northampton County can buld a $70 million prison to hold DUI and other petty offenders. Put the bracet or anklet on them and make them sit in their house all day. That will have an effect when they realize they can not go to the mall or on vacation while their family members come and go as they please.

I have done time for dwi . Someday those who put people in jail will be faced with with the laws they pass to protect themselves from ! Everyone knows what is best for someone else! putting people in jail for minor offense dui or marajuani . makes no sense at all. Other than madd and other money backed special intrest groups. Get there way with local goverment. The need to change American mindset. goverment spends 365 million to fight drug wars that they never win ! Madd is Madd not reasonable . only 1 percent of population gets caught for dwi. Laws only apply to those who listen ! Are we any safer today because of dwi laws?? I think not ! And has anyone thought about the cost of political big brother gps!! While you cry for ones loss you will give all americans freedom away! There is a better way. Jail is not the option.. neither is madd .

These county lockup dorms where it is easy to hang out all day could be easier on someone than sitting home all day not able to leave. Especially a married man who can't even work while his wife does then comes home to nag him about sitting home all day and what this is costing them. I wonder what the stats are on domestic violence associated with the ankle bracelet.

I believe people should think about what they are doing BEFORE getting behind the wheel after a drink or more. Regardless of how much you drink when out on the town, you should NEVER take the chance. You could hurt someone because of your own stupidity. I drink alcohol, but in my own home. If I drink at a friend's house, I stay over. COMMON SENSE. I believe the tax payers should not have to pay for the stupidity of others, regardless of the crime. If the individual suffers, good, then maybe he/she will think twice before doing something STUPID again.

DUI is not a ``minor offense.'' All you loser repeat drunk-drivers should be put in jail for years.

It amazes me how schools and prisons are not designed with expansion in mind. No one seems to care about 20 years down the road heck not even five. Why do we seem to knock them down and start all over

I think the bracelet should be used MORE often than it is. Petty crimes, like certain theft offenses, minor drug crimes etc.....any crimes that are a misdemeanor and are punishable by up to 90 days in jail, should use house arrest. I think the jails should ber used to incarcerate criminals, not petty offenders.

I remain astounded at your post! What is the viable option? Exterminating law breaking morons such as yourself? There'd be no repeat offense... You evidently are the 1% who got caught (seems like a made up statistic to me.. support it!) and your attitude seems to be one of unrepentence. Like it is those who caught you that are to blame and not your own fault?
What should we label this poster? Any ideas? WOW!
WHY BE SO MADD . ARE YOU UPSET FOR YOUR LACK OF CONTOL OVER OTHERS FOR THE PERFECT WORLD.WERE IF YOU DO NOT LIKE WHAT YOU HEAR . NOR HAVE THE INTELLIGENCE TO OPEN YOU MIND FARTHER THAN A CRACK IN A DOOR .NO I HAVE NO NEED TO REPENT TO YOU OR ANYONE ELSE. THIS IS THE POINT!! I DID NOT BLAME ANYONE! YOUR COMPREHENTION SKILLS ARE ALSO POOR. MAYBE I SHOULD GIVE YOU A BREATHALIZER . OR PUT YOU ON HOUSE ARREST!! GET IT!!

what while they sit at home, dont have to get up for work, dont have to do sqat but sit at home with a case of beer and get sloshed all day. then when the spouse comes home from work, tired and pissed and there's a fight. she smacks him in the head with the frying pan. he goes to jail because he violated his house arrest by drinking. she goes to jail for domestic violence. neither are cops. so the kids end up in foster care. and the cycle starts.

for those whom have never spent just an hour under arrest, an overnight stay at the county bed & breakfast is something that anyone arrested should be subjected to.... after that, either you will behave or not the rest of your life, period.....

SCRAM might be best solution. No booze for one or two years might help change the patterns that cause drinking related offenses. Make the offender pay for the monitoring and we don't have to build more prisons or raise taxes.

I agree that house arrest is a good tool for minor offenses. If a drunk driver is responsible for someones death, then jail time is appropriate.
First of all, zepher mom, they STILL can work, they either ride a bike, or are transported back and forth by a friend or relative. Many have to go to councelling and go to AA meetings.

Maybe there should be a law where you will not be served anymore than one drink at a Bar/club unless you have a designated tea-totaler driver. That DD cannot drink alcohol, period. If you want to get sloshed, do it at home, or don't drink. Period.

I love how the States LOVE the revenues they get from the liquor, though! Put in place a Designated Driver LAW.

Zepher Mom, what ARE you talking about? Where did that ugly scenario come from? Out of your not so happy head obviously.
MADD has become an out of control special interest group with huge politcal clout.
Granted, I would not want to be one of them that has suffered the loss of a child. However, there comes a time... to move on.
I believe that we have succeeded the last 20 years in changing what used to be acceptable behavior into what we should concieve as socially unacceptable behavior. It has been a tough and confusing transition especially for those who have lived through the two opposite paradigms.
As for the house arrest, always it is those who are full of judgment and have experienced nothing of what they judge that the callous words come from.
House arrest is hardly "a joke." You do not happily sit on your couch.
Most certainly doing the time is easier bc you need do nothing but keep your mouth shut while in the county jail and soon it is all behind you. With house arrest there are a million ways to screw up and not all of them are by drinking or breaking the law. Missing a bus to get home on time would do it. You are tagged like a bear in the woods and tracked and while there are things you are permitted to do, there are far more you may not do.
It is adequate punishment. Be sure of that. And after it ends, endless probation begins, peeing in cups and large fines and random testing and vistits to probation.
I say to all of you up on your high horses, stop casting stones for once in your life: so damned perfect you seem to think you are.
As for Morganelli, strikes me as a real mean son f a gun and didn't he write a book about the bank massacre and one could argue exploiting old wounds of the families. Maybe I am wrong about that so I appologize, if I am right- the book must not be too good. Haven't heard another word about it. Just strikes me as weird he would write that- something about the justice system catering to the criminals. Apple will never get out of prison. What the heck else does Morganellit want? So what if they gave Apple some chance to change his mind about the death sentence. Point is he's never getting out. Seems to me he might like medieval torture to come back in vogue. Sorry Morganelli- a DA has to be mean, someone has to do the job but sheesh, lighten up with the sword man. Remember, God said as you judged, so will I judge you.
Educate DUI offenders, let them continue to work, suspend the license, fine the heck out of them- they do all this.
And then house arrest too- you think its a walk in the park? Try it for a week!!!!

Lynn: Not get served more than ONE drink at a bar unless you have a designated driver? Get real. ONE drink doesn't make you a drunk driver, even though MADD wants everyone to think so.
