Legislator: State Marshal Double-Billing Is Illegal

Late last month, state Marshal John T. Fiorillo delivered a foreclosure lawsuit to a home in Wallingford, dropped off duplicates of the suit at two state agencies, and put several more copies in the mail.

I'm sure Sen. Thomas Gaffey thinks this is 100% legal. In fact, he taught the marshalls how to do this and get away with it.

I once had to hire a Marshall to serve papers on a small claim I filed for myself and won and after a few months I finally inquired about the collection, the Marshall responded, "...oh, I forgot, I'll send you a check." Yes, they are all corrupt. The positions are old political employment/appointment gifts and the system is long overdue to be dismantled.

However, perhaps your employed had a debt that she refused to honor. There are always two sides to an issue. I am concerned about the corruption of the position, not the method of legit collection.

These marshals are abusing the system and bilking the taxpayers. Only in Corrupticut would this be allowed. Where is Williams and Donovan, Harp and Looney, Geragosian (a realtor) and the rest of the Dems who claim they are looking out for the "most vulnerable" in our state? What a bad joke and what poor dishonest service by the marshals. They should be strung up by their thumbs.

Isn't that surprising? Even law officials are crooked. What a system we have if the ambition of a politician or gov't official is to bilk the taxpayers out of their money. It is a disgrace. Are there any honest people left out there???

The Courts cannot afford to be overcharged, but a reasonable fee for a sometimes unpleasant and dangerous job should be the standard

Playing devils advocate, if a marshall is bringing papers somewhere for John Doe for a fee of $X and Jane Smith has papers that also happen to be going to that same place how exactly would you charge each customer. Does Jane Smith get a free ride just because John Doe happened to reach the marshall first? If mileage is involved in the fee, than that should clearly be split between all parties involved, but other than that, if it costs $X to get something filed than that's what it costs. The idea of having a marshall serve/deliver/file papers is to make sure it is done properly and according to law (which is part of what you're paying for). Are their crooked marshalls out there working loopholes? I'm sure there is. There are crooks everywhere. That doesn't mean every marshall is crooked.

When is Mr. Menga ever going to admit that he was told what the "copies" charge it for...it's NOT for making photocopies...it is for the Marshal to verify that they are serving a true and attested copy of the original document, meaning that the copy matches the original document exactly. Why do the reporters always have to leave out pertinent information?

Well of course it has nothing to do with the fact that the employee didn't pay their bills and that is why they are in this position in the first place.

Yeah, I am sure you would prefer to just keep on keeping on with "Business as usual", lying and stealing from the state and its citizens.
