I had a girlfriend in college who did this: White girl with an Irish last name but spoke Spanish pretty good. When it came down to financial aid, she was always checking the Hispanic box. Made out like a bandit.

I have 3 siblings. We have all married. One owns his own business, the other graduated with a masters in public health from Columbia University,the other stay at home mother, and I'm retired. My parents have 8 grandchildren ranging from 13-22 years of age.
Six of the grandchildren are girls ages 15-22. None are pregnant, on drugs, smoke, or even drink alcohol. My daughter will be attending Boston U, my oldest niece has been at her university for 2 years, one is in nursing school. The other one is in the banking industry and the last 2 are still in high school. One of the boys joined the family business and the other one is still in middle school. They all volunteer in their communities.
And yes we are of Puerto Rican descent. My parents were born on the island and came over to the mainland when they were teens.
So please don't generalize. Every culture has its share of bad apples. Lets acknowledge and celebrate the goodness in all.
