Discord remains over administration building
“I see it as a way of dramatically increasing the efficiency of the Muscogee County School System”
The discord that tainted last week's Muscogee County School Board work session was still evident at Tuesday night's regular board meeting, where the price tag of the proposed new administration building to be built on Macon Road again took center stage.
Board Vice Chairman Philip Schley, who soundly rebuked fellow board members Cathy Williams and Fife Whiteside last week for publicly criticizing the board's 5-4 decision this summer to proceed with plans for the structure, said he sees the proposed new building as badly needed by a system whose employees are spread among far-flung and deteriorating structures. The board ask for less than $13M to build the center and got it. Now build it. Delaying from 2003 until 2008 was a sham. They should get NO additional money until there are no more portable classrooms in Muscogee County. Even then, they should be held to the amount originally requested. Educated people know they have to live within their budget, then maybe these are not......

Schley should be removed from the board. He owes this community a public apology for his deliberate personal attacks on Mr Whiteside and Mrs Williams. He and John Wells have outlived their usefulness on the board.
