4-year-old run over by bus, dies

A 4-year-old was killed this evening in Morris County after being hit by a bus. The Naples Police Chief says 4-year-old Patience Alderman had gotten off the bus about a block too soon, and she was trying to get back to it when she tripped and fell.

My heart goes out to the family and to the driver who has to live with what happened. As a former school bus driver, I have to wonder why the driver pulled away before making sure the child was well away from the bus, and further more, why the driver let her out too soon. May God be with them all.

One of my friends cousin saw the whole thing occur. The little girl got off at her normal stop but she realized that day she was suppose to go to her babysitters house and went to get back on the bus so the bus driver thought she was well away from the bus and then all of a sudden she tripped and fell and the bus driver didn't see her. The bus driver got off the bus and held her while my friends cousin went inside to call 911. The bus driver pleaded with God for Him to take the bus driver instead of the little girl. It is horrible and my heart goes out to the family as well.

I understand that the bus driver is/was in a Shreveport hospital on suicide watch. This is so terribly, terribly sad, I pray for all involved.

Yes this is very sad. I have looked at the school bus's in some New England states. They have two adults on the bus. The driver, drives the other on every pickup or unload of every child will get out and look under the bus. I think this is a good system. They may do it in Texas, but I never saw it. As well as I know Texas they would rather pay millions of dollars on a new school etc. than to pay a few extra dollars to look out for the safety of school children.
