Busy Week For Morgan County Sheriff’s Department

There are 12 comments on the www.roanecounty.com story from Dec 18, 2008, titled Busy Week For Morgan County Sheriff’s Department. In it, www.roanecounty.com reports that:

The Morgan County Sheriff's Department had a very busy week. They started by busting another meth lab in Deer Lodge and ended it with a drug bust in Petros. In between, they charged a Department employee with passing a school bus discharging passengers, and arrested a man for robbing the Rocky Top Market in Wartburg.

On Saturday, December 6, the MCSO received consent to search the home of Curtis James Adams, age 42, and found sufficient evidence to charge Adams with manufacturing methamphetamine. The Tennessee Meth Task Force truck was called to assist with the cleanup.

On Friday, John A. Monhollen, age 41 of Wartburg, was booked into the Morgan County Jail on charges stemming from a complaint filed last Thursday. Witnesses state that at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monhollen, who works for the Morgan County Road Department, was traveling northbound on Genesis Road in a county dump truck. A Morgan County School bus traveling south was discharging children at 1179 Genesis Road. Three children got off the bus at that residence, one made it across the road and the other two had to step back in front of the bus as Monhollen passed the bus without stopping.

Daniel K. Frost, age 29, of 104 Douglas Lane in Harriman was arrested Friday morning for robbery and theft of property.

The Rocky Top Market in Wartburg reported a robbery. Deputies, led by Chief William Angel and assisted by a concerned citizen, located the vehicle at a home in Mossy Grove. Chief Angel got a search warrant. The search found most of the missing items, which included a couple of cases of beer, a carton of cigarettes, and the defendant. There were four other individuals in the residence, two of which were also arrested for drug paraphernalia found during the search.

Friday evening deputies executed a search warrant at 225 Backstreet, Petros, and arrested William M. Davidson, age 38, and Brenda L. Kowalski, age 29 for delivery and sale of a controlled substance, possession of a schedule II, schedule IV, and schedule VI, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. Both are being held at the Morgan County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Illegally passing a discharging school bus in a county vehicle? It does not appear as though Mr Monhollen weighs risk very well. Unfortunately for him, Lehman Brothers is no longer around.

did anyone bother to ask if tried to stop!!! its not like you can just stop those trucks on a dime, and school let out early so its not like he knew to be looking for a school bus. I hear the person who filed the compliant is not all up and up

This could have turned out to be a very tragic incident and it should be treated as such. When my kids are getting on and off of the bus I always try to watch for other drivers. People don't pay any attention but I do find it very disturbing that a county employee in a county vehicle is showing such disrespect toward our children.

That is no excuse, I work for the Division of Forestry and we drive big trucks loaded with dozers and we take enough time to expect the unexpected. Any truck driver who has the least bit of concern for public safety would know this. The size of the vehicle is no excuse. His license should be pulled and not allowed to operate commercial vehicles. He should not have been going so fast that he could not stop.

You are right Outdoorsman - alot of people drive commercial vehicles which are heavy and hard to stop and the ones that know what they are doing and care don't drive them fast. I know my husband drives one and then we get in the family car and he still can't go over 40 and have to tell him that my car doesn't have a sign on it that says SLOW MOVING VEHICLE -

Point is there is no reason to be driving so fast on our county roads that you can't stop a vehicle - our roads are not straight for the most part they are hilly and curving and you have to be careful no matter what you are driving.

Why don't you report these people? We need to slow down these drivers.I have 2 children who don't need to run over or to be sold drugs.

If you report them, and they are in the good old boy club, then they will know who you are in about 30 min.
