Jimmy Carter said if it were not for racism, this man would be Governor.

Actually, if it weren't for racism, people on the internet wouldn't try to find a way to insert criticism and hatred of Obama or his defenders into conversations and comments about articles that have absolutely no connection to them.

Only 18 years for this horrific murder? There is something terribly wrong with the justice system nowadays. Clearly this person deserves to die for this crime.

American victims get no real justice anymore.

What is wrong with you people? This poor girl's family is grieving and you're carrying on about Obama and racism. Can we keep the comments relevant to the story?

It is important to remember that inmates have families that also pay for their loved ones' crimes. May peace be with both families involved.

His sentence is "18 years TO LIFE", meaning 18 years is the earliest he could be released, which he won't, but he could and probably will be there for life.

I feel sorry for the victim, but this is more evidence that we need easier access to birth control.

Do we really want any more crackheads out there having five children?

18 years is about average for murder in the US, actaully.

this situation is truly sad for all parties involved. That crack has ruined so many families, people are selling their souls for a 5 minute high. At least he had the good sense to not waste taxpayers' monies on a jury trial. Not too much you can say in your own defense when "Big Brother" has you on camera. May both families find peace and try to move on from this.

Thank you for the comment! I have a loved one in prison (NOT for murder) and I too pay the price! Bless all families involved.

The family did not want the death sentence. They wanted him punish to full extent of the law, w/o the death pently. He is getting the punishment by living everyday knowing what he has done.
