How was it, that Petsmart was at fault for the death of your dog? Did a vet confirm the dog's death was attributed by the groomer? If so, I would be doing more than mourning! If your dog died of natural or unnatural causes, then shame on you to place the blame on someone who had nothing to do with the death of your dog. If your dog was too old, had health problems and died because of the stressful situation you placed him in (grooming is never an enjoyable event for animals), then his death is on your hands. Be sure before making such libel claims, that you get your facts straight.

Read the article before you label lawsuits frivolous. It's a legitimate case by a legitimate guy, confirmed by a veterinarian.

As much as I usually take up for groomers, as you have to show control to avoid bites, this type of force is NEVER nessecary---I groomed for a private groomer (where I learned to groom) for 3 years before moving and gaining employment at a different PetSmart location than the one being descibed, and I quit within 2 months. PetSmart's training program, which I was an observer, (I went in as a head groomer with my experience) was unsatisfactory in many areas. I eye-witnessed what in my mind was repeated abuse by several PetSmart trained groomers and when I was told it was safe and humane practice, I quit immediatley. My recommendation is to find a private groomer, whom you can take your dog to on a regular basis, building a strong human-groomer-pet owner-pet relationship with. Private groomers in general, speaking in terms of my own experience, spend more time with the animals prior, during and after the groom which helps sooth the animals anxiety and fears, making for a more trusted (on both the dog and the groomers ends)less stressful, and memorable experience. At first, a groomer should expect distrust from the animal and should take his/her time ensuring the dog that no matter what, the groomer will never hurt the animal on purpose. With that being said, I can only hope everyone reading this will find someone they trust, and continue to use that one person over and over, as many groomers will confuse the animal and the process will start over with each groomer they take it to. Poor Chester, my prayers are with him and his owner.

If a vet is vouching that PetSmart had something to do with Chester's injuries...then...this IS NOT a frivilous suit.

My toy poodle is my son! He's treated with the same respect & discipline & love as my "human" children!

A Petsmart groomer in Oklahoma City was responsible for the death of our healthy 11 mo old schnauzer in February 2009. Autopsy was asphyxiation, resulting in a collapsed lung, then heart attack.

As of today, 05/07/09, I will have had 2 vet visits after being groomed at a Petsmart in TN. Both for the SAME problem-my anal glands were "nicked" and became inflammed and infected. I am a Welsh Corgi that loves my humans and thought this was mean! I don't want to go back there....I would rather go to my vet office, at least they are nice there and more understanding.

Having recently experienced a groomer from hell- a $ 38 grooming has turned into over $ 1,000 in vet bills, a police investigation and yes I will be seeking reimbursments of my actual expenses. I am thankful that my sweet Cavalier King Charles is projected to make a full recovery, we are still facing a long road ahead. Included will be visiting a canine rehab specialist. I am shocked at the stories from people that I have come across when I share what happened.
Posters such as Jane."another frivolous lawsuit" you need to get your head screwed on straight.

that was an awful story about Chester....I hope he will continue to do better...I have a little dog that is my baby and I have to have him groomed 2 times a year and he has an attitude and I am sure that the groomer has trouble with him but they would never hurt him....I've been going to the same groomer for 13 years and he does not mind going....Town and County are awsome vets but they also have awsome groomers....and if something were to happen because of stress they have trained professionals there to take care of your munchkins....Like I said I hope Chester contines to improve

If you read that there are potential problems with groomers for hire then do it yourself you lazy asses! Your pets will be less stressed.

I do not patronize Pet Smart. I have had issue when they gave shots to my kitten. She was so stressed, and they handle her rough. Once getting home, Zoe was still lathargic and blood in her stool.
That evening I took her to my vet. My vet stated that Zoe was stressed which caused intestinal bleeding.
I should have taken her to her vet orginally. The shots at Pet Smart were suppose to have been econonical.
So much for that theory.
Zoe is now grown and beautiful.

I also have a yorkie. I would not dare take my pets anywhere near Petsmart.
My yorkie is groomed at Petco. The groomers are great, and allow the parents to watch.

I'm a professional groomer with 22 years experience.
I learned to groom on-the-job, at a small shop.
It takes a long time to learn how to groom dogs and cats properly.
I once worked for PetSmart (for a very short time) and I can personally say that PetSmart trained groomers only receive ONE MONTH of grooming training before being allowed to work on customer's pets.
This is not nearly enough time to learn how to do this job safely..!!
Based on my knowledge of how PetSmart trains their groomers, and also based on the fact that I have fixed so many bad quality PetSmart haircuts, and heard about so many dogs being injured at PetSmart, I would strongly suggest, as a professional groomer, that no one take their dog or cat to PetSmart to be groomed.

My best friend's dog who was only 1 and 1/2 years old died yesterday at PetSmart. He was lively, vibrant, and just a couple of weeks ago, went to the vet and received a clean bill of health. They said he collapsed just after grooming and no one knows what happened. They offered to get an autopsy and some tests done to determine the cause of death, but in my mind...isn't this lab also affiliated with PetSmart? She took her dog's body to his regular vet and they offered to do an autopsy, but told her it was going to cost alot of money...well into the thousands, but she just can't afford it. So, she is getting the autopsy done thru PetSmart since they are offering.
Not really looking for an answer other than...what really happened?
Just wanted to post to let other people know what happened and I pray they never go thru anything like this either.

I took my Shihtzu to Petsmart. When I got the poor little guy back he was shaking and shivering (in fear) for four days straight. The groomer said "he liked to lie down" while she groomed him. This sounded really weird. My dog only lies down when he is sleeping or comfortable. They either hurt him or treated him so roughly they traumatized him. So scary. I won't ever take him back to this petsmart. A lawsuit against someone who hurts your loved one isn't frivolous.(To whatever dooshbag wrote that).
