So what is it that we are supposed to do?
I thought this story ended abruptly, just when it had the potential to inform the public of what concerned citizens in this area could do to help.
The Portsmouth Times missed a great opportunity on this one.

It hasn't ended. Wheelersburg has a petition to force the governor to order the medical and pharmacy boards to get off their asses and fix this mess. It is just getting started-not ending.

Bob Walton Jr is the only one who is going to do anything. It makes me seck seeing people like Johnson there and he did nothing until he is running for state rep. Bob has to do it all. Our kids are dying and we need to fight, fight, fight.

I was referring to the news story itself, not the topic. They should have added the information about the petition and where we could go to sign it etc... that's all I meant.

I found this when I was sent a forwarded email.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stop-presc...
This link will take you right to the petition. Also, I guess you can go to Ipetitions.com and search the word Scioto and the petition will be on the list somewhere. I signed it. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

Isn't there a new thing they can put into people's legs that help block the neurotransmitters that make people all hooked to the pain pills. I wonder if the govt pays for that? Its really sad, I've lost a lot of good buddies to that junk.

You all brought this upon yourselves! I left Scioto county in 2000 knowing that these dark godless days were coming. I saw all of the warning signs: theft, murder, drug abuse, unemployment, boredom, condomless stores, the just doing to the unjust, and a false devotion to and invisible nothing that will never help you. You all should have paid attention to the warning sign instead of your greed. Your belief in "god" has brought this upon you! Just live your life fearing fear and help your fellow man!

You are one sick puppy, The problem with the Burg is people like you!!! Many more need God in their life instead of the drugs and the world would not be in the shape it is today. Of course there is always a smart a** out there that likes to stir up crap, and show their ignorance like you. Go lay down puppy and get off the drugs.

Bring your pictures, video, personal stories to the town hall meeting this Saturday in Portsmouth. Lots of law enforcement to be there. Let's put them on the spot!

Sheriff Donini

Does anyone know if he is going to be there and if he has any suggestions now? At the burg meeting-he acted clueless-felt like he was put on the spot and really had no valuable insight to offer. Hope he has received some education by now.

There should only be one target at this time:

The Purdue Pharma TARGET.

They bring in ship loads in the form of morphine bricks which is extracted and processed from poppy plants grown mostly in Afghanistan (also still in so-called-legitimate places like India). Then convert it into Oxycontin and Percocets. Also, Lortabs and other drugs.

Far far more is produced and distributed that really needed to fullfill the legitimate uses of it. We all know that because we see people lined up each month when they receive a check to go get it. Ever see many older people in those lines? Many of them still go to their tranditional family doctor source instead of these Pill Mill Opium Dens.

How many more thousands of people have to die in their own vomit? Or become crime victoms? Or entire familys and towns depleted of wealth to feed the monster that will not obey?

Putting your public official representatives on notice that you know the real source and you want them too to promote who the real pusher is; no matter what position they hold.

The problem is far more than what we see as the "front Man".. ie Pill Mills. Forget them. Go for the real source.

Maybe for once we can all get on the same page and take a chunk out of this maddness.

You are right, but the clever company has already allowed for the manufacture of generic forms of the Target, made by another company, in which they receive the profit due to a lawsuit. Getting Perdue would only drive up the sales of oxycodone by another company, with a large part of the profits then going to Perdue Pharma. It is sort of a form of "pill laundering" and money laundering. If you know of a way, go for it. I personally think that they owe reparations to the people who they have caused to die and lives they have destroyed.

Appalachia is the original killing fields for OxyContin, and no one would listen. Now, the monster is out of it's cage, and consuming the nation. Where the hell is the FDA??????? They are supposed to protect people from unsafe prescription drugs. Where ARE they? At a golf course on the Riviera-compliments of Perdue Pharma? There is something immoral going on here, and America better wake up before it's too late.

Hey know one held a gun to these junkies heads they all brought it on there selves. As for real pain sufferers there the ones that are goin to really suffer! When the drug is extremely hard to get and no one is prescribing it anymore there are goin to be alot of people in real pain! Stuff the junkies there the ones who created this whole bloody mess in the first place and maybe some ill judgement on the drs behalf. Thanks alot junkies once again u ruin everything! now when oxy is nerely impossible to get a hold of u junkies just go rob someone and go buy ur heroin its all good but what about the innocent pain sufferers? They cant get heroin they have to many morals to rob people so what do they do? Tell me? F*ck im sick of drug addicts ruining the system for everyone else! So over it!

"We" have to stop thinking in terms that the government (more-so politicians) or corporatations are going to fix this without DEMAND from a large majority of citizens. The Opium plague has shifted from China in centurys past to places like the USA in this century.

The more "we" talk about the lower level distribution culprits (pill mills and bogus doctors), the more time we allow more people to die and wealth sucked out of our towns and familys.

Pretty darn obvious lots of people cannot manage their habbit/addiction which "we" are directly affected with the crime and poverty aftermath.

"We" should be taking any opportunity that comes along about this topic to go after a core source of DRUG OVER-PRODUCTION !!!

Who makes these drugs in such vast quantities so that in thousands of towns and millions of people can wait in monthly lines to get them??? Many of those using money they receive as a monthly "check". OBSERVE THAT THE WAITING LINES ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH.

Put this stuff back in the hands of traditional family type doctors. Not these Pill Mill Opium Dens. Then the over-production problem/abuse will start taking care of itself.
White Terror

When it infiltrates your town it is like a great invisible terror, that seeps in your windows and through the cracks in your doors, turning good people into desperate criminals, and people who claim to have pain long, long past their illness or injury. They injure themselves on purpose to get it.There is something so sinister about this drug. Believe me,Opium Dens, we KNOW about the Pill Mills. Since they came, our violent crime rate and theft rate has went off the charts, and people are murdering for a few pills. How do we all get together and unite against this plague? West Virginia tried, but the CEO's got a plea, paid a fine, changed a label, and increased production.
