The title of the article should have read, "Officer shoots, armed man killed."

By man's laws, an 18 year old person is an adult. The story title should have reflected such. Of course, the local media NEVER wants to reflect the truth! That is why our crime rate is disproportionately accelerated when compared to other cities with a similar population.

Yep, I agree. The local media always tries to make the "victim" appear young and innocent. No one in the media even questions why a "teenager" had a gun to begin with, or what he was doing running around at 1:30 am. One article even stated that Hunter's family felt that lethal force was "unnecessary". So I guess it's perfectly OK that their relative was running around shooting at people, but the cops shouldn't have taken him out? What a joke. It's sad...it's unfortunate... but that ADULT got what he deserved. Personally, if an officer is pointing a gun at me and telling me to get down, I WILL FOLLOW EVERYTHING HE SAYS. If we get the rest of the "thug mentality" to do the same, this type of tragedy will be avoided. But I am sure someone will say it was because he was black. Oh well...

Better to be cuffed by a merely miffed cop than by one that's aggravated by your non-compliance. It's easier to sort things out when you're both calm, cool, and collected.

It's a shame when there is a tragedy or violence incident that happens to make the paper and a person of color happens to be involved people have to make it a black/white issue. It's 2007 an racism is still a major issue in USA. Then you make ignorant comments like "thug mentality" do you even know what that means oh but of course you do you see it on tv everyday. Guy get serious, if you can take you pompous head out of your anus and you raciest eyes off of television you would realize this is Americas problem, a human problem.

you all are ignorant and you need to shut up talking about my best friend like that! you don't bother to ask what really happened. well i will tell you i was there that night that nolan was MURDERED. nolan is the one who called the police to get this drunken man out of his house. we tried to make this man leave for an hour! that man said he was going to get his gun. nolan was not "running around shooting at people". he was protecting his home. nolan did not want to hurt that man. if he did, he would have let us throw the boiling water on him. but he told me not to, saying if we threw it and he rushed at us, he would have to shoot him (and this was in his own home.)another thing, if that pig would have said FREEZE or PUT THE GUN DOWN, nolan would have listened. but gregory orrick did not announce himself. instead, he crept around the side of the building like the trigger-happy cop home from war that he is, and he SHOT TO KILL, not to stop the threat. if he actually saw what happened, he wouldn't have shot nolan. nolan ran into the house holding his neck. he said "HE SHOT ME, HE SHOT ME! CALL THE POLICE! I NEED HELP" he didn't even know the police were there. even after he was shot, he thought that man shot him and he looked to the police for help, but they didn't help him. i know there is an active cover up on nolan's murder. i don't mind to talk about it either because if i lose my life by a trigger happy cop, at least i will die knowing i gave my life for my best friend. i gave all that i could. this is not about color. this is about justice. Gregory Orick, i wish they would have murdered you in Iraq so that people living in the 5th district would really be safe. how many others are out there like you. i can't even leave my house because i am so afraid of the police and if you ever read this, you stole my future, my will to live and do good, you stole the light out of my life and you ruined my life. my friend lost his life and you got a paid vacation while he is laying there so cold. you don't deserve to be a cop. you only make the streets more dangerous for us all and i pray for anyone who has the misfortune to cross your path. i hate you. i hope you go to bed every night knowing that nolan needed your help, and you murdered him.

i lost a lot of people that are dear to me in 2000,but i see they are a few people who just don't understand.i read everybodys comments, some know what happened some don't....Nolan was killed....by the people that are paid to protect us...this will stop being just a black issue, just read the paper...other folks are feeling a little bit of the same evil...by the way, do anyone knows that if a group of people ,who kills 25 or more people a year is know as a decloration of war...that means we as black people been in war for 450 years and more...let me tell you nolan's story...nolans is the one who call the police, and waited about 2 hours for them to get there...thats when he got his gun...he was scared of the man that didn't leave his house...this man kicked his dog, nolan ask him to leave, the man didn't...nolan argued with the man(that he just met, trying to be nice to the man, that he just took in cause the man said that he was homeless)..this man was much bigger then my brother...almost a hundred pounds...ok , so the man kicked his dog, nolan ask him to leave, then the man said no, they argued , then nolan went to call the police, the man still didn't leave and no police had came...then nolan came back in, sat down, played his game waiting for the police to come...no police came...about an hour passed, still no police...the man is still in nolan's appartment...about an hour and 20 mins past...the man left...then he came back, then nolan got his gun, and came outside...wouldn't you feel threaten at this time...about and hour and 45 mins later... nolan came outside to scare the man, but the police was there now...and they never said put down the weapon...they just shot...nolan thought the man had shot him...he was wrong, it was the police

the police are not obligated by law to protect you from violent crimes, they can sit back and watch one if they please... thats why the right to bear arms is in the constitution... so everyone should carry a gun if they are smart. idk the details of this story but you really cant blame him for having the gun.

this is some what true dave but, we really just sorra got the rights to carry guns back...and then, thats so many rules . you can be a ccw holder one day ,then a felone the next, because how you should carry your weapon...then laws changa from county to county, city to city, state to state...for example, u can leave my appartment, lets say and get on salem, drive 5 mins, now you are in harrison township, now you are in a new law zone...it's wasn't like that when the constitution was written...pam

Wow! I would just like to say that you cop haters are nothing but uneducated black people from the armpits of the west side of Dayton trying to get a dollar. You do not know what you are talking about when you speak about that night. I feel bad that someone lost their life, but it is not the officers fault he is dead. Nolan picked up a gun and pointed it repeatedly at someone which implies he was going to shoot that man. Hence, never point your gun at something or someone unless you are prepared to shoot. Officer Orick saved a life that day, Nolan and his family chose to bring the violence that night by their actions. ALWAYS look over your shoulder in Dayton because a cop might catch ya doing something your not suppose to. Bad boys, Bad boys whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you!

You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.

Why does no one ever talk about Nolan's criminal record? Apparently his OWN MOTHER didn't think he was such a good person, or she wouldn't have filed domestic violence charges against him in the past! Or, did the police make her do that too?

Its time to take some personal responsibility. It was a good shoot.

Ever noticed that when the police have to fight with someone and that person gets hurt, it's a "beating", but if the officer gets hurt, it's just a "scuffle"? More media spin for ya.
