Wrong again........
The laws only banned whites and blacks from getting married..........ROTFLMAO
The first such state law was in 1691..........
You are extra slow today..........Before the assault on the word marriage by gays during the 90s no states had laws against same sex marriage........
Today more than half have passed such laws.........
You are the one losing ground..........LOL
Really? Not until the 90's? Are you sure??

Then why did the Minnesota State Supreme Court rule in 1971 (Baker v Nelson) that MN statute prohibited marriage between persons of the same sex?

Hmmmms, seems like there WERE statutes banning same-sex couples from marrying long before the 1990's.
That would come as news to the couple in Minnesota who sued to be able to marry in 1972 but was told is was against the law.

Some states banned whites only from marrying blacks: Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, etc.
Other states banned whites from marrying blacks or asians: Missouri, Montana, etc.
Other states banned whites from marrying blacks & indians: Maine, North Carolina, etc.
Other states banned whites from marrying ANY non-white: Georgia, Texas, South Carolina, & Virginia.

No state had a law against same sex marriage.........Now we have more than half that do..........LOL

May 18 1970 Minnesota: State statutes did not prohibit marriage between two adults of the same sex. "Marriage, so far as its validity in law is concerned, is a civil contract, to which the consent of the parties, capable in law of contracting, is essential. Jack Baker and Michael McConnell applied for a marriage license in Hennepin County, Minnesota. It was denied.
Thanks again for making my point
And in 1971 the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled the existing statute DID prohibit same-sex couples from marrying.

What a moron you are.

And why did the Minnesota Supreme Court rule that the existing statute DID ban same-sex couples from marrying?

Whatever moron.

Play your word games all you want. It doesn't change the simple fact that same-sex couples couldn't legally marry in any state prior to 2004, and now we can marry in 9 states with more to come shortly.

If that's "losing ground" then I'll gladly take that any day as we'll continue to "lose ground" until we can legally marry in all 50 states by the end of the decade.

They did ask for equal rights, and were denied.

Yep, keep playing your word games as we keep gaining marriage equality in more & more states with federal recognition this Jun.

Your fellow anti-gays won the last vote you'll ever win in 2012.

Thanks again for making my point
Minn.St.c517

From the Minnesota Supreme Court ruling in Baker v Nelson (1971):

"We hold therefore that Minn.St.c517 does not authorize marriage between persons of the same sex, and that such marriages are accordingly prohibited."

Hmmmm, sounds like state law at the time banned marriages of same-sex couples.

And this proves that the gay community is not as smart as blacks or women..........
Blacks got equal rights but they did not demand to be called white.........
Women got equal rights but did not demand to be called male........
Gays demand to be called straight and for 30 years they have been denied equal rights..........ROTFLMAO
Nope, there can't be equal rights without marriage.

I'm married and I've never demanded to be called straight.

If in 1970 they would have asked for equal rights they would have been granted..........ROTFLMAO
Nope, still wrong asshat.

The existing law at the time DID specifically prohibit same-sex couples from marrying, which is why they were denied a marriage license and why the Supreme Court ruled it prohibited same-sex couples from marrying.

If they weren't prohibited from marrying, then why were they denied a license?
