The clergy are not the owners of church properties.
TThe clergy are not the owners of church properties.
The properties are depositaries of wealth accumulated from being tax free and of the gifts that the faithful have donated for religions social programs.
Since the former expenses of the Church in health care and social programs are now to be met by the State, the pious intent of the church people is being fulfilled.
The return of Church property to the government will reduce deficits by selling the church properties.
These sales may be deemed sacrilegious by some.
Church members may be discouraged from providing money for mortgages or from purchasing former church property.
So be it, there will be many willing and able corporate buyers.
