Manhunt On For Alleged Drug Dealer Wallace Thrasher
In high school, Thrasher was a ladies man and a true daredevil from the get-go and he likes making money under the table and cheating the govenment out of money if he can get away with it.
In high school, Wallace Thrasher earned the nickname "Squirrel" for his ability to squirrel in and out of trouble and his daredevil tactics in athletics. Decades later, Thrasher still hasn't outgrown the name.
U.S. Marshals say after Thrasher enrolled in the Navy, he used his skills as a pilot to become a profitable drug dealer in the ‘70s and ‘80s. They say he was importing drugs from the Caribbean into southwest Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee and Florida without detection.
With all of the money that was coming in, authorities say Thrasher could afford all that he wanted in life: airplanes, mountain cabins and Florida homes. He attracted beautiful women and eventually married one of them. Olga Thrasher was allegedly well aware that her husband was involved in drug operations, but she enjoyed the lavish lifestyle that came with it.
For years, U.S. Marshals say Thrasher was able to stay under their radar until the cover of his drug enterprise went public on Oct. 17, 1984.
Thrasher allegedly wanted police to believe that he died in a place crash in Jamaica that ended so badly only an imprint of the plane was left.
Drugs, Death And Disappearances
As an alleged drug dealer, Thrasher had endless money to finance his luxurious lifestyle.
U.S. Marshals say an $80,000 military surplus reconnaissance aircraft belonging to Thrasher crashed in Fancy Gap Mountain, Va., with 500 pounds of marijuana and a load of cash on it. The pilot was burned beyond recognition, but the co-pilot managed to survive – and U.S. Marshals say that’s because Thrasher picked him up after he fled the wreckage.
Authorities say the plane crash gave them all the evidence they needed to connect him to the drug trade, and Thrasher knew it too. Before he could be charged, authorities say he concocted an escape plan.
Thrasher allegedly wanted everyone to believe he died in a Jamaican plane crash that ended so badly only a burned imprint of the plane was left. Authorities say the only evidence of his existence from the flight was his wedding ring, which was somehow unscathed and later returned to his widow.
U.S. Marshals say his wife Olga was in on the act. They say she printed an obituary in the paper and produced a fake death report to get insurance money. She then allegedly took over Thrasher's drug trade. Authorities say Olga went as far as hiring a hit man to kill one of Thrasher's drug associates, which eventually led to her arrest.
In exchange for her freedom, she testified against several members of the drug operation.
Mystery Surrounding Pilot Becomes A Folk Legend
Authorities created this age-enhanced photo of Thrasher to show what he may look like after being on the run for more than 20 years.
Because the case spans more than two decades, Thrasher's fate and the stories surrounding him have become local folklore. Everyone has a theory on whether he's alive or not.
U.S. Marshals say the tall tales that Thrasher met his demise in a plane crash aren't likely. They say Thrasher is alive and is just very good at playing the fugitive game.
Authorities believe Thrasher may have taken flight to Belize or the Bahamas, where he's living the good life. U.S. Marshals say even in his old age, Thrasher hasn't quit his job as a drug runner -- he'll live and die for the thrill of it.
Thrasher's story is one without an ending until he's brought back to face justice.

Just watched the unsolved mysteries show and looked him up for an "update" okay, by now if this guy still hasn't been caught, I think old johnny law in virgina are crazy and wasting peoples time and taxes there to find a man that is and has been most likely dead. If this guy was still alive and roaming around he would of been caught by now (2014). I don't know if he died in a plane crash, or maybe someone killed him in south america to steal money from him or whatever. I hope to god cops in my state don't waste my tax dollars on things like this. I mean heck, they invigated it for a while, like they should, but at this point with no one coming forward ever to say they have seen him etc then he's gone
