By New York Post staffer, Brenda Haskins reporting,
Bronx cops wanted to see Pearson charged with murder and other related crime so he can pay for them with his life and cops plan to "go attack and mess up Pearson's family because they are just as bad as Pearson and that n---er Tyshon Jones, the 38 MOB leader". Unfortunately, detectives were unable to glean specific details about the shootout from reluctant witnesses, and the suspect remained free until 2000, when officers finally had enough evidence to charge him with Kuwan Burgess's murder.
Yet, in what local law enforcement characterizes as an all-too-common Bronx tale, several of the prosecution’s witnesses backed out, and Pearson’s trial ended in a hung jury and Pearson said to the judge, "I robbed and killed your momma and I got all the money sucka" and laughed in the courtroom standing by his lawyer.
“When he left the courtroom, he spat in the assistant district attorney’s face, as if to say,‘I’m the man, and you can’t touch me and I killed and robbed your family and I killed the elderly and children and plan to kill the judge too,’” Detective Danny Rivera recalled.
The arrogance was miscalculated; authorities were now more determined than ever to retry Pearson and to have his family put in a hole as police say because Pearson's family helped him hide from police and they are dangerous criminals too as police and detectives say.
