lets get it straight everyone comes and learns English ,except the Mexicans. Everyone is expected to suck up to them because according to them everyone else owes them. After all in Mexican schools it is taught that America stole everything from Mexico and it is all theirs anyways.
What ever
Assimilate or get out

"Salinas" is a Spanish word, is it not? Plus like it or not, the hispanic community is the majority here. What was that you were saying about assimilating or getting out?

Yes the majority along with that they brought Salinas down with crime, low performing schools, run down neighborhoods, and very little positive contribution to the community... Salinas is a pretty shitty place now...and because of who?

This is the sad reality... please read the article

And please don't let your emotions get to you, take a moment to understand what is really going on... so when you reply, reply like an adult and not a offended pissed off kid

America's largest minority group and fastest-growing ethnic group lags behind others in aspects of American life.

College enrollment

- Forty-five percent of young Hispanics were enrolled in college in 2006, compared with 49 percent of blacks and 61 percent of Anglos.

Teenage births

- Hispanics ages 15 to 19 had the highest birthrate of any group in 2005. There were nearly 105 such births per 1,000 for Hispanics, 61 for blacks and 26 for Anglos.

Becoming citizens

- In 2005, only 10 percent to 30 percent of eligible Mexican immigrants became U.S. citizens, compared with 50 to 65 percent of European immigrants and 65 to 70 percent of Asian immigrants. Mexican immigrant applications for citizenship jumped nearly 50 percent last year, partly because of Hispanic organizations' push for citizenship and a rush of people trying to apply before higher fees took effect.

Civic involvement

- Less than a third of Hispanics volunteered for neighborhood or civic groups, compared with 38 percent of blacks and 40 percent of Anglos.

Gee, the number of wet backs in california is rising, what a shock!
Anyone who has traveled a bit can attest to the fact that areas where there are low latino populations are cleaner, have much less crime, less crying babies, less ugly little indian women pushing strollers, less losers in cowboy hats dirtying up street corners, less gang bull, less less less less but better service, people who SPEAK THE LANGUAGE OF THE COUNTRY.
Mexicans will be the ruin of this country. Check out California for a preview of coming attractions.

Legal...Illegal. If you got here illegally you should go home. Otherwise we as americans should treat you like invaders. Please...for your own good...stay in Mexico. You killed an american landowner this week...now we should put bullets in you to avenge his death and teach you a lesson. It sould be simple...cross the border without our permission, and bullets will tell the story.

Salinas is a sh!t hole thanks to Hispanics... they have a huge Hispanic gang problem, the predominantly hispanic student schools are failing. Over packed run down neighborhoods

Those who have seen how great america is in areas with english speaking, all native born americans can now also get an idea of the ruin that lax immigration policies bring here in good ole monterey county.

all the rich old white couples and trust fund babies on the peninsula have their head in the sand. open a mexican restaurant in their neighborhood and it's cute and "exotic." for their part, the workers in such places know they have to shuck and jive to stay open when they're not the majority.

in south monterey county it's to the point where no mainstream chain stores survive outside of fast food. whats left are stores run by and for mexicans with no desire to assimilate. good luck trying to get basic services and service period down there. try any store south of salinas (and now most of salinas at this point, lets be honest) and see how far speaking normal, clear american english gets you. now you dont need to save for a romantic mexican getaway, you can just take a trip to south monterey county and get some reality therapy.

hiring immigrants for slave wages may be a tragedy, but the bigger tragedy is how the corporate desire for a cheap labor pool has had the unintended side of effect of making all these latrinos (thats not a typo) drag their whole f'n family over here to dirty up every sector of society.

for once i'd like to be able to go buy a steak or shop for a shirt without having to hear constant spanish jibber jabber by fat little indian women and old men in cowboy hats with gold teeth leaning on canes.

i also don't like that the taxes coming out of my (and your check) and paying for the pregnancy costs and medical costs for these leeches. you weren't born here? not my problem. work too many hours to take english lessons? also, not my problem. we need some old school ellis island type immigration policies again - assimilate or get out.

those making the decisions are too weak to enforce any change though. native born americans will continue to suffer. thanks ranchers, for your greed. thanks companies, for paying dirt poor wages and undercutting the markets.

those who say california is on the cutting edge are right, in the sense that we're a preview for the cesspool this country will be if this immigration mess continues unchecked.
