Guest commentary: Does Salinas need two hospitals?
A s the pathologist at Natividad Medical Center for over 24 years, a former medical chief of staff and thus a front-line witness to local medical history and politics, I want to weigh in on Saturday's article about Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital's proposal to delay implementation of Natividad's trauma center plans.

Do they need two? They need three! Salinas needs to open a trauma hospital centrally located that can specialize in gunshot wounds. Perhaps a deal can be struck with the U.S. Army in order to have battlefield surgeons work on patients at a discounted rate. Win win I tell you!
