Why is this article from early 2010 posted here. We all know that carpetbagger Laird lost to Blakeslee. Where will he pop up next?

It is that roboblogger that spams his preferences without caring about us.

It was quite a surprise when he lost this election. But, as they say, you can't keep a good man down. He was very responsible as Chair of the Budget committee. I'm sure we'll see him again soon, either appointed to fill in a vacancy or announcing his candidacy for another office. The man has public service in his blood!

HOh BJ, given your support of losing candidates, if Laird even had a glimmer of a clue of who you are, he'd not be likely to welcome your "support".

GAIL LEVEY WRITES: "HOh BJ, given your support of losing candidates, if Laird even had a glimmer of a clue of who you are, he'd not be likely to welcome your "support"."

BECKY: First, I'm sure he knows who I am because I interviewed him for half an hour on my tv show. Second, you sure are a busy-body. You even interfere with my support for a popular local politician. Get a life!

John also voted against a campground and supports the camping ban. Why do you support him?

Uhmm, BECKY, the link you provided above says that he has already been appointed to another job. Over a month ago. When you read things, how long does it usually take for the information to sink in?

That one will most likely get crickets as a reply because then she would have to admit that it's possible and even ethical to politically support someone that is actively opposed to some of your strongest convictions. They might even (gasp) have lunch at the Crow's Nest together without brawling about it.

KAREN WRITES: "John also voted against a campground and supports the camping ban. Why do you support him?"

BECKY: I know he failed to repeal the Sleeping Ban when he was mayor. I fault him for that. But that was a LONG time ago. Since then, he's served on the State Assembly where he's performed admirable service protecting schools, the environment, and social services. You think I am a single issue voter? I'm not.

GAIL LEVEY WRITES: "TV show" ROFLMAO.

BECKY: I was on "Community Perspectives" for 40 shows and then I produced my own television series "Club Cruz" for 11 years, producing 308 episodes. You can roll on the floor all you want, GAIL.

I think that's great that you would still publicly support John even if he had the ability and funds to open a campground or lift the camping ban but stayed consistent and refused to. Now I know that I will never have to hear you whine again that I respect or have fun with people that I disagree with about homeless issues because I know that you understand it.

AND he's against a campground.

He's against two of your core values and causes, but you support him anyway. Interesting. And you say "But that was a LONG time ago". Do you know that he has changed his position on this since?

Now people, don't try to confuse Beckers. She likes John no matter what cause of his uber-liberal views.

KAREN WRITES: "I think that's great that you would still publicly support John even if he had the ability and funds to open a campground or lift the camping ban but stayed consistent and refused to."

BECKY: I didn't follow his career as closely when he was Mayor of Santa Cruz, and sure, I'm disappointed he didn't take care of the Sleeping Ban. but I liked how he represented us in Sacramento showing toughness and fiscal common sense as chair of the budget committee. With the State is such dire need of funds, his skills are needed more than ever.

Perhaps you are thinking of ROBERT NORSE. Norse will never forgive LAIRD for his anti-homeless decisions.I prefer to work with what's he done lately instead of dredging up past failings.

Here's the thing, KAREN. You only bring up past misdeeds if they are still relevant today. As to your other point: It's called piling on. And it takes strength of character to not do it.

I really do think that it's very tolerant of you to you publicly support someone who voted against and killed the only proposal for a campground that ever made it to the Council agenda. I'm not impressed by single-issue voters either but in this case I can understand why Robert still holds a grudge against John and Mardi for successfully defeating it.

I'm not quite following your point about past misdeeds. What is the statute of limitations on that? How far back does the past have to be to no longer have relevance? Are past actions that resulted in policies that are still active today relevant?

Becky, if I were piling on I'd be making fat jokes and poking at you about your family and sex life. Asking you to elaborate on your points is not piling on, it's a discussion.
