I just had an annual dr. apt and guess what i was told to bring with me?
Payment, insurance card,.........AND......A PHoto ID.
And should i fret over whether or not i will be able to vote?!!!
Grow up already and get a photo ID - and if that is too much to ask of a citizen, then maybe said citizen should not be voting.

That is a terrible attitude! There are some American citizens that have atypical situations where this new law is an issue for them. Not the lazy whiners, but how about a sickly elderly person with no family or means of transporation to secure a form of photo ID before the election. Should that peson be omitted from fullfiuling his right as an American citizen? Get some compassion please. If one person is not able to vote, then the law is only self serving.

How will this person be able to vote with no transportation family or friends? I believe some absentee ballots are exempt?

http://www.longdistancevoter.org/pennsylvania

UOCAVA voters and voters affected by the Voting Accessibility for Elderly and Handicapped Act are exempt.

http://www.Th e chief election officer of each State shall provide public notice,
calculated to reach elderly and handicapped voters, of the
availability of aids under this section, assistance under section 208
of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (42USC 1973aa-6), and the procedures
for voting by absentee ballot, not later than general public notice of
registration and voting is provided.

How about a young person who is terminally ill and has never driven, never went to college, has no insurance and is unable to get out to obtain a photo ID. All I am saying is that there will definitely be individuals that are prevented from voting, whatever their circumstance, and for that the law is self serving if it excludes anybody.

And i assume you are as equally upset that these poor neglected souls can't order an alcoholic drink either.
I'm sorry to say this but if a citizen is in such a state as you describe - im not too sure that person is all that concerned about exercising the right to vote. Let's have some miniscule shred of accountability and responsibility here- appreciate the right and make the little effort it takes to get the dang photo id and vote!
What voter id does is to ensure that legal, living citizens vote and vote once. And further, protects those votes. I find great comfort on that and say "it's about time" my vote is cherished!

Inept poll workers are supposed to make sure they vote once.

But who are you to determine of that person should vote or not, just because they have health or other issues. And you know not eveybody needs an ID to drink, so that analogy is ridiculous. Like I said, if 1 person who should be elegible to vote cannot with this new law, the law is self serving. Period.

Of course Aunie. I'm sure there will be after the fact stories about eligible people that could not vote for reasons no one took the time to consider.

If I walk into a grocery store and buy a 6 pack of beer, I must show a photo ID proving I'm over 18. If I later walk into that same grocery store and purchase a pack of cigarettes, again I must provide a photo ID showing I'm of age. And it makes no difference if I'm 25 or 75, I MUST show ID. It's the law. And if I want to see the Presiddent make a speech, again, that pesky ID card.

i'm not determining who can vote. You need to step back a bit and try rational thought. There are laws and regulations - i'm puzzled why libs object to this - unless of course it is preventing them from casting fraudulent votes. No, no, we wouldn't want to preserve the validity of the vote now would we.
If voting is so important to a person, they will find a way to comply with the law. It is so simple it's ridiculous - and to object to such a beneficial law defies rational thought.
So, get over it and get the proper ID to vote and while you're at it, start canvassing your area for anyone eho needs help getting the ID- stop whining and do sonething to help all those poor people who just cant seem to get an ID.

That is bs. No one has ever asked me for ID since I was in my 20's.

You just don't get it, so instead of talking to me about rational thought, perhaps you can try to remember that this had always been talked about by the reps and fought against by the dems for years. It has always been a way to reduce the amount of registered dem voters. If you can't figure out why this can present a problem for some, then I can't help you. No one is whining either, just stating an opinion that you do not agree with. Grow up.

Well, you have said all that is needed to expose the issue here.
Believe me, i get it. And believe me, i support the law that PROTECTS ALL legal voters. You can choose not to.
On a related note, you should educate yourself on which political party has done more for civil rights. I know you are very busy and work very much so i'll clue you- it isnt the dems.(since you brought up politics)

Slush, whether or not you want to believe this, there is definitely voter fraud out there. Does the name ACORN ring a bell? Literally thousands of fraudulant voter registrations. And if somebody uses this system, the possibility of voting in 3 or more places is definitely a possibility. And if they all voted Republican you would still have no problem?

You say one voter denied is one too many and I agree. But one person voting twice is every bit as wrong.

A solution has been proposed, but you are against it. So.... What's YOUR solution? Instead of just being against something and repeating Billy Maher, give us an alternative.
