Mountaineers are always free. Freedom, Liberty, Justice these words ring hollow in Monongalia County in 2012. The American Revolution was planned in smoke filled taverns of the day, in order to throw off the yoke of oppression by England. Now the last bastion of freedom for smokers ends on March 9, 2012. This is pitiful an should not stand. However an unelected body of five despots have decided that smoking will not be allowed in any bar in Monongalia County. Is this right ? Whether your a smoker or not you should be concerned an actively see that this gross injustice is repealed.
During 2011,a new city manager arrived in Morgantown, with his no smoking in bars agenda. This misguided young man pushed through a rule in Morgantown to that effect. I understand he cavalierly used a sports metaphor to say “ in order to level the playing field now Monongalia County should adopt this no smoking in bars rule”. Shortly thereafter The Board of Health decides that smoking will not be allowed in any bar in Monongalia County.
A well orchestrated an financed end run around the people not only of Morgantown but of Monongalia county. No more going to the neighborhood bar for a drink an a smoke , your kicked out. Where are the court challenges to these rules ? Where is the outrage over continued incremental losses of liberty in the name of public safety an health. What is the redress ? Throw it back to the County Commissioners , they are soon up fpr a vote an are responsible for appointing the unelected gang of five to the Board of Health. Are we the people just sheeple ?

To start where was this young man from, this new city manager, New York, California, these two states seem to be the biggest non smoking and personal liberty restrictive states currently, your county commissioners should be the end result of a decision for the county, let the bar owners know you will stop going to the bars until this is changed they must bring complaints of loss of business and therefore loss of revenue to the county and state through tax loss, start a campaign to rid your self of the city manager, and I'm sure you and your friends can come up with ideas, good luck..
