Grandfather gets prison time for knifing grandson

An East Prairie man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for assaulting his grandson.

This was as unfair as it gets. Raymond Wheatley, 66, has been railroaded.

Wheatley has been married for nearly a half-century, aqnd this decorated Vietnam Vet / retired welder of 45 years had with NO PRIOR CONVICTIONS.

"He had no previous felony convictions,[this is] his first offense," Cann said.

The sentencing report's harshest recommendation was FIVE (5) years incarceration, appropriate only if the crime was "particularly cruel or heinous..."

Wheatley's randson beat him down, and Wheatley used a knife only to repel the attacker. He's clearly not a criminal mastermind, etc.... Just a good old man who had a tough rode to walk.

Wheatley was NOT railroaded. Any one that did what he did to his own stepdaughter,(the grandson's Mom) deserves what he gets. The grandson was defending his Mom. I've talked to them both (the mom and grandson, even Wheatleys wife) and they all told the same story. He was caught in the act of doing bad things to his stepdaughter and she has a mental handicap. Her son caught them and Wheatley pulled a knife on the grandson. As for as decorated Viet Nam Vet Haha. He went AWOL. I don't know about the welder part but he was a truck driver that bragged on all the women he had everywhere. So just because the grandson has been in trouble don't go blaming him for defending his mom. Wheatley is where he belongs.

He was not charged -- certainly not convicted - of any sexual misconduct, so for the state to consider it was unduly prejudicial.

The pre-sentencing report called for PROBATION and he got nearly a decade...

I know the grandson...he is one of my closest friends and yeah hes been in trouble before but has changed his life around for the better. Raymond Wheatley is a no good liar. He thinks he's God's gift to the world, but thats his own opinion. I know for a fact that he has been married for all those years BUT he cheated on his wife more than once. In fact if we want to state the facts we can say he moved out and in with this other person back in 2002 and made promises to that family, but when things got rough and he figured out they didnt have the money he thought they had he split and caused this person to try and kill herself...yeah what a great guy...lol! I dont know what all the circumstances were and are with the stepdaughter or the wife but all I know is that the grandson had EVERY right to defend himself and his momma. He is one of the nicest people I have met and I think of him as my big brother and I know that if I ever needed his help he would be there. In fact he has protected me from making one of the biggest mistakes of my life by telling me about how a certain person was and I guess still is...but thats a totally different subject...HAHA! So I thank him for being a friend.

as far as Jimmy gos no he has not changed but yes he was standing up for his Mom because of what he was told by his Uncle Cliff that set it all up to hurt his Dad because they had a falling out a few years back. he was not hurting his stepdaughter or doing anything sexual to her when she gets Drunk she pees on her self and he was changing her clothes so that was the perfect time for Cliff his Son to set him up as far as Raymond go he was the one defending his self when he cut jimmy (yes he should have done things different)but Jimmy beat him because thats what Raymond's son (Cliff) wanted him to do....

No, he wasn't changing her pants. He was using that as an excuse wqhen he got busted. The only reason he didn't get charged is because Paula's mom told her not to press charges this had been going on for some time, he would go down and get drunk with her then take advantage of the situation knowing that noone woulkd believe Paula well he finally got caught! He got what he deserved.

Raymond has always been played by L>W>, she complained that he drank beer after work everyday. But I watched her slip pills in his drinks to knock him out & take his paychecks. She would tell her sons crapabout Ray, to start fights. In fact when her daughter found out what ray was charged with, she wanted to talk to pa office and tell what she knew. But her mother told her she would throw her out if she did. Now that he has been wrongly charged, her mother has taken her trailer away from her. And the daughter paid for that trailer fair & square. His wife has been known to practise witchcraft. And the grandson, well lets just say he has stolen from everyone in the family. However, he was acting on what he was told by uncle & grandmother. They pumped him up to do just what they wanted.

verywell put (someone in ep who cares)uncle raymond was railroaded plain and simple.. for starters when this happend clifford had a pistol when him and jimmy jumped raymond that night!! but the PA didnt want to hear about that all he could think of was getting a prison sentance and as far as someone saying there was sexual abuse that whas thrown out due to no dna evidence from the hospital paula was not sexually abused.

So what really happened was that Cliff went to check on paula and raymond at paulas becomes liama wanted him too because she knew they were gettin drunk down there and when cliff went in the house he heard nosies coming from the bedroom,hmmm take a guess so he ask whats going on and he can here raymond i guess mumbleing something and when he goes to see he sees his dad taking advantage of his stepsister paula, instead of beating raymonds ass his self he starts to yell and pulls him away walks out to go down to his moms and jimmy asked what was going on so when cliff told him jimmy took matters into his own hand. raymond and jimmy started to argue raymond keep trying to fight him and then they started to fight raymond pulled out a knife and then started too not only stab jimmy but cut him he sliced jimmys kneck almosted killed him stabbed him in the back also in the back of the head and then cut is arm too, after that is when jimmy supposely beat raymond which raymond deserved jimmy was fighting for his life because of this man anyone would have done that,liama told paula not to say anything so she didnt because liama takes care of paula so paula does as momma says...she tried to get jimmy to drop charges jimmy wouldnt this cause a big fight between them. now you might think im taking jimmy side but im not i really cant stand him personality but i wanted to clear shit up, as far as cliff goes okay umm im sure if he had such a promblem with his dad he wouldnt have moved in the damn trailor park next to them when lord knows he can efford a house... think about it. so next time get yalls story straight before you talk shit.
