The way I look at this problem is this: They have NO PURPOSE n grading the roads. All they want to do is DRAG them. The drivers should try to improve one road per day.You will not see any improvement until the road supervisor can identify what the problem is and make the driver correct it.From what I understand, they don`t even write the road numbers down and Richard goes out and looks for the improvement they made grading the road. They need to take the best operator and let him make suggestions how to correct it.If someone doesn` step up to this, you will not see the roads getting any better.Anytime you have water standing in a ditch.you will have a BAD ROAD.

I understand Missco has 13 graders but are running only NINE.A good grader operator can grade an average or 12 miles per day on any given day but you can`t do it starting at 10:30 and quitting at 2:30.I noticed on channel 8 news ,they showed a grader running and bouncing all over the road .all that transfers to the blade and you CREATE a rub board effect.Net thing the road appears to be 24 feet wide and only one house on the entire road.A secondary roar like this should be 18 feet wide. This means you are cheating the road out of SIX feet of wasted gravel.Narrow the road and you will gain 25% more gravel.

Dusty Rhodes...I love the name.

I noticed that the county likes to brag about how well they manage the tax payers money, so my question is, do they hold back on some services, such as the roads, so they can point and say we have a surplus OR is the budget so tight they simply do not have the money?

I do not venture down a county road very often, but when I do, it is a real challenge.

thats for sure Judge McGuire is a big waste of tax payers money. We have been trying to get gravel on the low spots of our road for 5 years now,and when I called and spoke directly to him he had the nerve to say if I wanted better roads I shlould have built on a paved road. What nerve, where is our tax money going? I bet his road is in good shape. After 1 good day of raining I cannot get to my house using my regular route, I have to go the opposite direction. Might I add that the co. rd. dept. come out and agreed that our road was unsafe for travel. Think I will start sending the raod department my vehicle repair bills.

Lets not kid ourselves. There is no "Road Maintenance - it is only Road Repair. The Superintendent uses a reactive approach to work on the gravel roads. The roads in the north part of the county get more attention than the southern half of the county. The Superindent never checks on the work activities - he can't he is always either in Leachville or at the County Court House up the Judges butt. What the county needs is Proactive maintenance on the roads with a Superintendent that will actually check on the roads he is supposed to maintain.

What I'm seriously concerned about is our ditches. When was the last time they were dredged out? They have unusually high water in all the lakes up north right now. So we can expect some flooding here in the low lying lands. But with our ditches the way they are now, they wouldn't/couldn't drain off any high water. The ditch between Osceola and Blytheville is all grown up with trees, very little ditch left. This scares me.

the road dept went down hill when they lost the supervisor to the Miss.co. landfield. this guy went there and turned it around and the road dept went down hill. I heard he left because he(Richard) treats his employees bad. This guy was a grader operator and other heavy equipment for over 25 years... Richard cannot run the dept. they way it should be ran. the only reason I feel he is still there because he blows smoke up the judges ass.. The only reason he got the job is through a buddy system (wink) was passed over from someone outside the dept. after being there for over 20 years and could run it with his eyes closed. the reason the grador operators are so bad Richard has ran all the good ones off..

To start with the only thing wink could run is a bottle of whiskey. And another thing, the people you all need to be griping at about the roads are the farmers that keep them tore up. Your speaker Mr. Greg Alexander wasnt crap till he married into money. If he would keep his tractor off the roads maybe he wouldnt have so much to complain about.

Guest, I have known Greg Alexander since he was an infant.NO ONE ever gave him anything. He has worked ever since he was old enough to climb on a tractor.John R. taught him to work hard and have good Morals.I presume that is not the case with you. I have always known him to go to church and not drink or dope his money away foolishly. You should go sit down with him and let him explain what hard work and good morals mean to him and let him witness what the Lord will do for him and you too,if you will lead a good life. And by the way,the farmers pay a lot more taxes than you or I do which entitles them to expect what they pay for. I`m praying for a change in your attitude.

I'd like to address several remarks: First the farmers, number one they don't pay "more" road tax, the common citizen pays road tax on every gallon of gas we buy, farmers receive a tax exception on gas/diesel purchased to use in farming. Farmers have always used the roadway for moving between fields with their equipment, BUT with the increase in acerage requiring larger and "heavier" equiment this is contributing to the excessive destruction of our gravel roads. In this same line I'd like to address the comment about a lesser traveled road being narrower, well how would you feel if you lived on a gravel road and drove it everyday and had to meet up with tractors with wide equipment behind them? The roads are pure dirt on the sides with precious little gravel in the center and your in a small car and you end up in the muck praying you'll be able to get out because your only other choice it to get hit with the equipment. The only ditches I've seen cleaned out have been the ones the home owners have dug out. When the farmers dig out a ditch they go toward the road decreasing the width of the road, some fill in the ditch entirely and plant their crops and one year we even had a farmer who planted soybeans along side the road! Sorry this is long, but in closing we pay our taxes for nothing, and if the county is broke its because the money has gone elsewhere or into someones pockets.

this is to all the ones who want to down grade the ones in the county who are trying to take care of issues that people like you want take a step up and do yourself. first of all i don't know where it got started that i married into money and everybody regardless of money or not you are somebody. and furthermore what do i brag about i just tell the truth and tell it like it is i don't pull any punches and i don't care if you don't like me or what i live my life not yours or anyone elses and personally don't care what you think about me i know who i am i don't trash others for trying to do some good with our tax dollars. as for farmers daughter what you are talking about no gravel on the roads or on the sides is exactly what i was trying to get taken care of but i guess that don't suit you either. everybody wants to trash the farmer all the time but think about where your food and the clothes that keep you from walking around naked where do you think that comes from meat and cotton are not man made materials but people that keep up crap like this before long it will be all you can get. i am not ashamed of who i am or what i stand for so put your name in here and quit hiding. i would be glad to talk to anyone of you who wants to. and by the way the county road budget is 2,076,000 so don't let the judge tell you they have limited funds there it is in black and white and it can only be used for the roads and bridges period. like i said if you want the facts come see me and get the truth before you throw stones because i will throw them right back at you

Don't blame the citizen for standing up to the politicians. Give em h#ll G.A.

The politicians like the money, but don't like to be questioned. The time for that is over.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Libra

You're ready to put a lot of energy and drive into the day, but you'll prefer it if you're doing things that have meaning and emotional significance for you. There's a chance that you could get quite heated over anything that strikes you as important now, and others could be taken aback by your vehemence. There might also be a minor dust-up over a financial matter.
