If it will bring jobs to the community, but I fear that will not be the case! These are tough economic times, the money might be better spent on Economic Development of another kind. Colquitt looks good on the outside, but that does not make us prosperous as a community.

If I am not mistaken, the money has to be used for the theater. They can't just do with it like they want. It was specific. Yes it will do the town some good to get rid of the eyesore. One thing I can say about Colquitt, it is the prettiest and nicest town in Georgia. I use to tell people I was from Albany because they have never heard of Colquitt. I now tell them I am from Colquitt. Most have heard of us through Swamp Gravy and the Murals. I welcome the money to do the renovation.

Not my point, but I agree with SOME of your opinions. I am thinking on more of a National Economic level...it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks about the project anyway. If it happens, so be it!

I think it is a wonderful project...and yes, I am sure the money was "specific" for this renovation, most money of this kind is. I love seeing Colquitt transformed into the community it is becoming. There is still LOTS of room for growth and change. I wish we had something for our kids to do in this community...like bowling lanes, a skating rink - a place where we could have parties and not have to go out of the county or state to offer our kids a fun place to play! I feel like something of that nature would do great in this town. Somewhere like an arcade where the kids could hang out on Friday or Saturday night with plenty of supervision and be safe.

i know someone who was just talking about that. They said they might want to do something with pool tables, games, music and snack foods. They thought it should be open after school and on the weekends.

it is not a place to hang out or go see a movie, it is scheduled to be a conference center (another useless building that is off the tax digest) Cotton Hall can and is being used for the very purpose that this building renovation is planned, with the disguise that it will bring more people to Colquitt.(BULL) It will help remove some of the BAT dung smell from the city square though. Let's say that all of this is done and we have our little MURAL CONFERENCE right here in little ole Colquitt bringing in people from all over the world like they had in Australia, They are talking 1000's of people and the building is scheduled to hold what? 250 people. The conference is in OCT 2010 and construction has not started. The TARRER INN has how many rooms? Are they going to stay in your house? NO! The money they are going to spend here will amount to some gas, food, nic nacs and little pretties from the square stores(which is good) but it is not worth $500,000. Just look at what is going on with all of the pretty words and smoke they are pumping up your butt. Do you ever wonder who is shoring up all of these buildings now that the Jinks Foundation is not as solvent. Look around, check into it a little. GOOGLE IT FOR PETES SAKE.

Looking forward to good things happening in Colquitt. A good, peaceful place to live and a great place to visit. I already know a family of five who visited and liked it so much they have moved here. I will be happy to see the money used for the theater.

I have traveled several states for years. I use to say I was from Albany just to keep from having to explain where Colquitt is located. Now I tell people I am from Colquitt. They know where it is. We have one of the nicest, most impressive, and beauteous towns in the southeast. A lot of people in other towns are jealous. I would love to see the old movie theater renovated for what ever the reason. A lot of work has gone into the change and it will take a lot of work to continue. I hope one day to see a different courthouse. The one we have just don't fit the scenery but maybe in time that will happen. If only the politics could be toned down........

Good things can happen in Colquitt; however, the polictics does need to be toned down. It puts a 'red-neck' shadow on our otherwise garden spot of the State. A lot of time and potential for our county is wasted on bickering between county offices.
I can't wait for the renovation to begin in full. How exciting to watch the changes take place. Let's be positive, we are blessed to live in Colquitt.

I live here in Colquitt and have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I actually live outside of the city limits and love the idea of having more in this city to do as a family. This is a wonderful place to raise children and grandchildren. However, there is nothing here for the children to do. A movie theater would be an awesome thing for the City of Colquitt. It would give families an opportunity to have family time together besides just going out to eat or driving many miles to do something together. Everyone wonders why half the town is over weight! All there is to do here is eat, eat, eat!!!The young children and teenagers need some activities to do here.

A drive-in movie theater, like in the old days would be Awesome! I bet people would come from miles around. Probly be cheaper too, maybe they should look into that.
