It is obvious that "skizots" is not a parent because his opinions and outlook on parenting just screams "I don't know what the ##@@* I'm talking about". It is not the parents' frustration I was referring to but mine and every parent who ever had a kid go horribly astray in spite of all their hard work and dedication aimed at ensuring the very opposite.I happen to have 3 boys too and am FORTUNATE enough never to have a situation remotely similar to this. I say fortunately because after you devote your life to your children, consistently pay attention to their schoolwork childhood development and the like, their comes a time (usually late teens) it takes just that-good fortune-to put them on a permanent good path through adulthood. I assure you the Conways are crushed when they think of the victim's family. They did not let their guard down or sleep on their youngest child. Mr. Conway coached little league for many years in spite of his busy work schedule. Mrs. Conway is a special needs educator. Do these people sound like lousy parents to you? anyone? Can't you entertain the possibility that some kids just have this sort of thing in them and there is nothing ANY parent can do about it? The fact that you can write such thoughtless drivel and blindly call out two exceptional people like that tells me no, you can't. But try harder. I know it's hard but for one minute imagine how it must feel to have your life turn from story book bliss to a living hell out of nowhere. And save your obligatory speech about the victim's family.I could not fathom what it would be like to deal with that. Nobody could. It it the ultimate tragedy. But must we pile on further-albeit way less severe-injustice in its wake?

"seyhey": First of all, I'm a parent of teens & 1 young adult. Secondly, I'm a "she". If there's anyone who doesn't know what the "##@@*" they're talking about, it's YOU! As far as my "obligatory"(??) speech about the victim's family???!!!: There's nothing "obligatory" about what I said. You assumed I'm not a parent, that I'm male, and now you're posting how I feel??? Where did you get your education from??? YOU are the one who seems to feel an "obligation" to support the Conway parents, and I understand that, as you've known them for a long time. But let me tell you something about parenting: A parent can do all the right things in raising their kids while they're young. It's the TEENAGE years that are crucial for parental envolvement! For a teen to not only be involved, but to PARTICIPATE in such a violent crime, brag about it via text when they get home (WAY PAST THEIR CURFEW), without the parents wondering where the "bleep" they've even been all night: COME ON, NOW!!! Every time my teen drivers were getting close to curfew, I always phoned them to make sure they're home on time, "or else"! When any of them were just a few minutes late, they were grounded for a week! So spare me your speech about how difficult it is to be a parent of a teen!

These kids should tried for murder as adults. However, the people crying for 'the chair' need a reality check. It's not like these kids set out to kill someone. They were just idiots looking to cause some mayhem. One of them was stupid enough to punch the victim as hard as he could. He probably did not know it would be a killing blow, but it was. However, the law has to take intent into account. A person who "intends" to kill will also be charged more severely. The kids who didn't even throw that punch just found themselves doing the wrong thing with the wrong person. They should be tried as accessories to murder but not murder itself. Regardless, they are and should be looking at some hard time. Decades, at the least.

Eddie: While I agree with you that some people need a reality check with their "cry for certain punishments", these "kids"- more like THUGS were looking for something MORE than "mayhem". While I'm guessing that they didn't mean to kill the man, still, They MERCILESSLY beat a man to death, and from what the news articles printed, they continued to beat the man even when he was already down! They harmed the man's 2 MINOR kids, and although they didn't harm the wife, they allegedly pushed her into the house (to get her out of the way). Their "intent" may not have been to kill, but they most certainly didn't care how badly they were attacking someone, as if it was some kind of exciting "rush" for them. If that be the case, then it could possibly be murder. These THUGS are old enough to know right from wrong, but they just didn't care. Had they been able to get the male driver victim before this attack, I hate to think what they would have done to him! Had they all been just a year or so older, they would be tried just like any other adult criminal. I agree with you that some of them may have been an accessory, and yes, their hard time will happen indeed. An innocent man is dead, his family traumatized, and has to live their life struggling emotionally and possibly financially.
