If a person takes out an car insurance plan but the car is registered to someone else,?
I have a friend who wants to borrow my spare car. He said he would be willing to take out good insurance plan on it for a few months while he uses it to commute to class which is only 1 mile away.
The car is registered under my moms name. I'm almost certain anyone can take out an insurance policy on any car, it doesn't have to be the name in which the car is registered under.
My question is as long my roommate has his own insurance plan, is there any way they can sue the person under which the car is registered to aka my mom.
Please don't BS me if you're not absolutely certain.
Legally speaking - If a person is legally allowed to drive a car and has insurance, on what grounds could the victim of an accident bypass the persons insurance and sue my mom because it's registered under her name.
I'm thinking if he takes out his own insurance policy on my car, there's no risk at all because it will give him the legal right to drive the car. Yes it's registered under my moms name but it's my car, I paid for it, the only reason I have it setup like that is so my insurance is dirt cheap because I'm listed as a co-driver.
