A dirty shelter arrest??

Could someone please let Sheriff Steve Whitlock know that this is looking mighty suspicious - Mr. Bartlett was due to testify in the Gates discrimination case - and all of a sudden, he is fired for....... a dirty animal shelter?

A shelter cannot be kept spotless, much less clean ALL of the time - big fat wormy puppies will toss a big old wrench in your plans on the best days.

This case, and arrest, needs to be investigated - by someone above Whitlock's paygrade.

Try, Mr. Whitlock, try to find one - just ONE - animal shelter in the entire state of Georgia ... better yet, in the entire United States - that, upon opening up the front door first thing in the morning, is without feces, urine, a few piles of vomit, pet food strewn across the floors, cat litter all over the floor outside of the cat boxes........ and a louder than the worst body odor of stench in the air.

Please do that, Mr. Whitlock - and IF you can find just one somewhere in the good old US of A, only then will I believe this was not a personal vandetta against Mr. Bartlett.

If Mr. Bartlett was arrested, that makes it a "criminal investigation" and "criminal issue".

Ag is only regulatory - they should not become involved in a criminal investigation, and especially involving a current licensee of their office - which the Meriwether Animal Control IS an Ag Animal Protection licensee (i.e. Animal Shelter).

Which "should" mean that the Animal Protection people should not be involved - especially
if Mr. Bartlett was allowed, by Ag, to be allowed to conduct euthing uncertified. All Ag should
be doing is complying with the criminal investigation of Mr. Bartlett - that would mean making copies of all inspection reports, euth forms, blah blah blah and giving them to the DA.

It's AG Animal Protection that is "supposed" to verify that the shelter euth person(s) has been "properly trained" in the humane euthing of a live animal.

I'd say the Animal Protection people, least that Ag shelter inspector, is who needs to be
investigated.

And besides, ultimately, all of this falls back on Ag - and the county. Because AC operations
are overseen by the County Commissioners and/or Sheriff.

So Sheriff Whitlock is only calling attention to his own shortcomings of the Animal Protection
Act, Ag's Rules/Regs AND his own job responsibilities.

And now Ag Animal Protection management is refusing to release any inspection reports of Meriweather County, claiming "It's under investigation".
WHAT is under investigation, Ag Animal Protection?? Your Animal Protection inspector that neglected to check their Euth Lay Person's form? That is who needs to be "investigated" - and reprimanded - or perhaps re-trained.

I have some very good friends that work in Meriwether County and are highly educated intellectual and compassionate executives. They are embarrassed by this and the "trash" journalism involved in disguising the real issues. I wonder if anyone in Meriwether County thinks for a minute this is making the County look good.

One of the saddest results of this "corruption" is that the generous philanthropist, Holland Ware, has been "counseled" that the charges against the Shelter are true and he has withdrawn a grant. Is that what the good citizens want? The animals to suffer more so that certain "scores can be settled" for speaking up? Corruption or evil, evil or corruption? Any theories, folks?

If Steve Whitlock is so concerned about the dirty condition of the animal shelter, then why is he not firing his staff for the dirty and deplorable condition of the jail? Should he not have the same type of concern for humans as he supposedly claim he has for the animals in the shelter.

Oh my goodness, you people need help! Sheriff Steve Whitlock has done an outstanding job for this county. No, you aren't gonna agree with everything the man does, but that's just politics. You all know what he's done to help this county. It's ignorance like what you people are saying that give this county an the citizens here a bad name.

this was a well planned, well orchestrated and revenge motivated attempt to destroy two of meriwether counties most dedicated employees (herb & sandy) that the county has ever had working for them.
