They have been quarantined for weeks! We found a dog that looked like it had been thrown our of a moving vehicle. Tried to go there and they said they would be open on 12/23. Went back then and they still weren't open. I have volunteered at many different animal shelters and have never seen where the whole facility had to be shut down like this. Tells me they aren't running things right.

they had a distemper outbreak due to that they were closed for dog veiwing, why would they take in a dog that could be exposed and die, there are several fosters on call for this situation all you have to do is contact the shelter and ask for the foster line up, were more than happy to help

I contacted the shelter several times and they knew the whole story and never told me anything except "come back when we are open again".

Most shelters have an area for quarantined animals that keeps them separated until they are cleared as healthy.

As a community we need to have our animals spayed and netured. Tkae care of them and we will NOT need the shelter as much. It should be a last resort. Dropping a unwanted pet off at the shelter or on the side of the road isnt the answer. STOP the flow of unwanted pets and this will solve the problem. They are always in need of food blankets dog walkers and workers to help with clean up. Instead of bitching about it go help them clean. BLEACH IS needed badly if theres a real outbreak. Cleaning a shelter is a long term issue. A mop and broom never gets rid of the illnesses. They need bleach and strong cleaners to get rid of it.

Shelter works i know all to well the pain of putting a animal down just bnecasue its unwanted. I too worked at the shelter from time to time. Its a ROUGH job and its just like pets at home 24/7. One sick animal is a dnager to all the others.

laundry soap
bleach
towels
blankets
dry/wet foods
cat treats
chew toys
outdoor bedding
dog houses
collars
flea dips/meds
litter
litter boxes
bowls
this is a short list of needed things at our local shelter. these are things that the county doesnt buy for the animals. If you have any of this please call and schedule a drop off.

Beg, beg, is that all the animal shelter knows how to do. The county gives money to the shelter and the adoption fee is so high, you should have plenty of money. So quit your begging. I am sick of it. If you took some of the money and vaccinated the animals, you wouldn't have this type of problem.

I dont work for the shelter. And I honestly dont think you understand the work they do. They are under paid and the county gives them LITTLE money to run that place. No where near enough to feed the amount of unwanted animals in their care. As far as the vaccinations thoses arnt cheap either. Its not the job of the county to vaccinate animales that were at some time PETS. The adoption fee goes to have the animal spayed and netured. Im sure if you can find a vet in the area to do this for under $55 bucks they might be able to strick a deal with them. As far as me begging no I wasnt I was making a statement. I DONT WORK FOR THE COUNTY

If instead of trying to pass legislation to order people to spay and neuter they would make it possible for people to get any animal fixed free or at a reduced rate based on income this would be much more successful. If people are forced in a corner facing fines for noncompliance they might start turning their pets over to avoid having all the issues associated with the aggravation of having out side intidies in there home forcing compliance. we live in an area where most people will do the right thing if theye can do it without having to struggle to afford it I'm sure the money's there somewhere to help spay and neuter as many animals as people will bring in. that in itself would be an incredible start more people may even be willing to take on a pet if they could get it fixed affordably.
