My sister lives on the outskirts of Pomeroy but, still in City limits. Now she has a full blooded Pit. The dog will bite but, it is not vicious. It acts just like a normal dog does. If a stranger drives up she barks. If someone walks up to her that she doesn't know she will bite them. She is chained up to a huge tree with a extremely heavy chain and collar. She has had all her shots.
The dog warden gave my sister a document with regulations to go by for a vicious dog.
Here are some of the requirements by Law.
1. Must have $100,000.00 liability insurance.
2.Must have a adequate fenced in area with a top on it.(Chain Link Fence Cage.)
3. Must be on a extreme heavy duty leash and collar and with the owner at all time.(Walking)
This list goes on and on.
What makes me so mad is certain pit owners through out Pomeroy and Middleport tells this Dog Warden to go straight to H$LL. My pit you can see from the roadway. Heard through the grapevines he has a list of well known pits in both Pomeroy and Middleport. I think if it goes for 1 then it should go for the rest of the pit owners. I just wondering who is buttering has bread?

Sorry FYI, you have stated that your dog will BITE if someone walks up to it and it does not know you, that is a vicious dog. I don't care how much you love this dog, it should be treated as a vicious dog and you should understand the consequences for owning a vicious dog. I can't believe because you own a vicious dog, that happens to be a pit bull, you think every other pitbull should be treated as a vicious dog. Would it make you happy if Pomeroy passed a law banning all pitbull and pitbull type dogs from the town, like in Gallipolis?
We live in a world today where dogs that bite have no place. People who love these dogs work hard to make sure their dogs are wonderful ambassadors for the breed and this type of dog. I am sure it would be hard to realize that you have a dog that bites, but if you will not take the time to either change this behavior yourself or work with a professional you should have to follow the county's rules on owning a dog that bites.

You think an effin chihuahua won't do the same thing. On the other hand i had an old friend stop by this weekend that MY PITT has never met! my friend loved my Pitt and my Pitt loved her and went running and gave her new born baby a kiss when she heard the baby crying...oh my she sure is vicious! The only time she would bite is for protection of family and that is why i have her! She is very loving to anyone who comes in our home and has never so much as growled at ANYONE! good look finding a little ankle biting dog you can say that about!!!

well you should get bit if your stupid enuff to walk up to a dog you don't know and if it's on her property and you walk up to it I would be mad if my dog didn't bite someone that's the point of having an outside dog to protect your land that's not a vicious dog it's a smart dog

No that is not a smart dog, that's a stupid owner. And if you are stupid enough to think it is O.K. for a dog to bite someone because they walked on your property you are sadly mistaken. A good watch dog will alert his owner that someone has come onto your permises, and it does not have to be so friendly that it acts like every stranger is his best friend, but you live in a society where you are responsible if your dog bites someone (does not matter if it's on your property or not) if not provoked. And just because someone stepped on your property does not give you anymore defense from the law or being sued than shooting someone who just came to your door.
In the case of someone breaking into your home and trying to harm you or others and your dog attacks the intruder that is in defense of his owners well being and can be defended.
And no one should get their panties all in a bunch at me over pit bulls and other large breeds because I work in rescue for some of the breeds that are being targeted by many cities and communities with ordinances and bans on specific breeds of dogs. I owned, shared my home, socialized, trained, and made rottweilers a part of my family for 30 years. But it is this attitude that you want your dog to bite just because someone came to your home that gets these breeds into so much trouble.
You also are wrong to defend these breeds of dogs by bashing the smaller breeds of dogs. I know many many very small dogs that are absolutely wonderful dogs and work in nursing homes, pediatric wards, cancer units, and various other places by giving love and allowing people to give them love.
It is wonderful that you have a big friendly dog that is gentle even with very young children but yes I have several small dogs that are just as wonderful with very young children also. And are used in several therapy programs.
This is why fighting for my, your, and our neighbors right to have what ever breed of dog we prefer as a pet and a member of the owners family is so hard at times. And that is why many communities, towns, and cities feel forced to make laws banning these large powerful breeds. When owners act and say they want their dogs to bite, they feel you have forced them to protect others from what you and people who carry on like you are allowing your dogs to do.
If you disagree with me that is your right but if you truly care about these breeds you will calm down and realize what these breeds need are owners who are willing to take the time to make them wonderful pets and companions and not potential killers.

My own 2 cents worth. What would you rather do? Be bite by a dog that is tied up and protecting his owners property at night or be shot with a double barrel 12.
Hate to tell some of you airheads, it is a violent world we live in today and getting worse. Wait until the Muslums move in your neighborhood.

My dogs are not potential killers...and I didn't say all small breeds bite! The point of it all is judge the owner not the breed! Also I'm smart enough to not walk up to any dog I am not familiar with that is on a stinkin chain....big or small!

I been to Village Council meetings, talked to Tom Profitt in person. Even wrote a letter to Columbus concerning the issues of dogs. I would have been better off talking to a tree.
My opinion there is anything you can do. Society has let the Officals hover over everyone. Meigs County, Village of Pomeroy and Village of Middleport needs new blood to straighten out the corruption through-out. Get rid of the old money and bring New In.
