Former Hondo City Councilman Clyde Haak shows off an enlargement of the $65,000 check he received Thursday as settlement of a defamation lawsuit he filed against Hondo Councilwoman Ann-Michelle Long and three other people involved in running a 2011 newspaper ad that Haak says made false claims about him.

Well Done Mr. Haak! I wonder why it was not in our local paper we as tax payers should know that some money was used for this lawsuit. Happy to see someone standing up to the Good Ol' Boy System and win. Keep giving them hell Mr. Haak.

Of course I'm not surprised it was not in the papers. At least one of them was on the city council so you would think it would be in the paper. But as usual, they try to keep it hush-hush! Good job Clyde Haak. Someone needed to show them there's a differenct between politics and slander.

There are members of the Hondo community that have power white and Mexican-American who have not gotten the memo that they were born equal to the rest of us. There are many who still feel that they are the elite, and they are willing to be very corrupt in order to keep their place in the front of the line. Worth has nothing to do with how powerful you are in Hondo. It is who's you daddy, who's you sister, who's your cousin, etc. The rest of us should start voting them out of every office from city, county, school board. In the meantime, we deserve what we vote for. I would take decent over "entitled" any day. Funny thing is they show up to their churchs and talk a good talk, but in the end, they are not decent souls at all (at least not by their actions). It is sad for this town.

And yes, they certainly show up to their church, sing in the choir, participate in retreats and so forth, but in truth, they would never do for anyone unless it benefits them first. And I don't understand how they manage to get into these job positions when those positions are never posted for anyone else to apply. Preselection is a violation of EEOC laws. Someone said, vote them out of office, one by one. I agree, but the problem is that some folks here in this town who can't see how they are used, keep voting for them. It would very easy to get them out of office if the minority would get out there and vote. Some of them complain after the fact and don't realize that it's the people in office who set the rules. GET THEM OUT OF THERE! Remember that next election!! And Clyde Haak may not be well liked for whatever reason, but in this case, he did what he did in a legal fashion and won! Enough said!
