Yes, this is mostly nbut many also try to bring business here & find the door is slammed in their face for being from "Up North" or they are called "Damn Yankees". This is not constructive to the cohesive needs of the area. Besides, there are dumbasses everywhere! How did everyone else get here? I say bring the plant here & tell the idiots that don't like it to "move to some place that you will be from, from now on..."

I think you you misunderstood my message. I'm not calling these people bumb asses. These quotes came from other northern people. I welcome all people to the community and I don't speak that way or think that way. My respones to this site are limited and will continue to be that way.I am not the type to just jump in after every comment and draw short minded conclusions. I only base my comments off of facts. Also I know quite a few people that moved here from northern states and operate bussinesses and I do bussiness with them.I do bussiness with all types of people and don't care where they are from as long as they show respect and are truthful. Thats the way I was brougt up and I cannot excuse those that were not brought up that way and ACT like they are better and smarter than others!

No, I was just adding to your comments really. That is usually the way local people figure out they are not "from 'round here" is that ability to state exactly the way they feel, in the words they feel best describe their feelings. Imagine that?

I have lived in many places along the East Coast. No one has any influence over where they are born, however, they do have all the influence over where they call their "home".

I have witnessed far too many incidents of rude behavior towards "outsiders" by locally grown folks when expressing their opinions. Almost all ended with the most rude & rather hateful words of "Why don't you go back where you came from"...

Really?

For all who hate ANYONE not born with Mecklenburg clay under their little baby feet: First look up "ignorance", then look up "intent to distribute"

I feel this bias is at the very root of the opposition to the ethanol plant but what is coming here to offset the proposed plant?

I see nothing else, except for EDS that has to import talent from outside the area since no one here can collect 20 people in a room who know how to run an IT operation on that scale....

Sorry but that is my opinion based mainly on trying to bring wireless internet to the county residents for the past 3 years. It seems to threaten bringing modern CHANGE & PROGRESS to the current 1950's climate... Please see Boydton Broadband articles in this forum if this issue interests you...

My take on this thread goes like this: It's a few dumbass locals and a few high minded ousiders trying to dictate the course of Mecklenburg County as far as the ethanol plant goes. The resistence to the plant began with a real estate agent who was trying to create a "equine community" by parceling out the Butler farm area. Just my opinion here but I think he must have seen his grand dream come to an end got bent. I base this on an earlier article in the News Progress where he stated he'd already lost a sale from a family up north because of the possibility of the ethanol plant. Now as anyone knows, a real estate agent would sell his own mama if the client wanted her included with a acre of land he wanted to buy. So, for him to lose a sale of that magnitude and just walk away don't add up. He got the APM started, recruited some local dumbasses, a few high minded non locals and now he's out of the picture. By the way he never actually lived in Mecklenburg County. He lives in NC, just had a real estate interest here. Go figure.

Broadbandforall i agree with you as all being treated equal. Unfortunatly it only takes a few rotten eggs to spoil it for everyone else. I do deeply regrete that some of the people from around here have told the people mainly from up north to go back where they have come from. However in a lot of cases they do come down here and like to tell us how backwards and dumb we are. However i myself have delt with some from that area that i think the world of. I had one from Philidephia live beside me for 4 years. It was constant turmoil. I believe that some of them are not content unless they are making some ones life a living hell. This one in particular even threatened to kill my dog if it walked on his property. Down here there is no leash law and as far as i know most of the "Locals" like it that way. But this guy was hell bent on getting one and made threats to everyone including the Board of supervisors. There were also other thing more sever but you get my point. I have also come to the conclusion that they are not wanted up there either. As I have heard a few from the PA and NJ areas themselves say that they wish they would go back up there and that they came down here to get away from thier type. Please do not take offense to what i am saying as i do not fell this way towards you just because you are from up there. Actually i am glad to have some one of your position that is from the north on this site to give an opinion. But i do wish that the people from up north could understand the resistance because we have had to deal with so many of these people that cause these issues. Take for instance one of them standing up in a public meeting and refering to us as under educated. Now it is obvious to me that we are far more educated then her as we would not have said something so stupid publicly. But she came from a much more educated area in her way of thinking. Intelligent huh? And this will go a long way for all the people in the south that hears and knows about this. As a rule for every 5 i will say that there is 3 that just can not get along and want to change things down here. Those are the ones that i will tell in a heart beat to "go back to where they came from" because as like most everybody else down here you will not tell us what to do.
Agian i am trully sorry that things like that have been siad to the "Outsiders". While i will not say it is justified i will say that it has been provoked. I hope that this will not make you fell as we do not want you around because that is not the case. As a matter of fact me and Chasecityrez were discussing you today and that we hoped you were not offended and would continue on this site. And for anyone to resort to name calling agree with you it is HIGHLY IGNORANT. It is one of the ignorances that i have zero tolerance for. But some can not control themselves i guess. So in conclusion i would like to say thank you for your opinions and pointing out the IGNORANCE of this are as you are right. But then again you just cant educate stupid people now can you. And if name calling is all you can do then It is better to keep your mouth shut and look stupid, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt!!!!!

Stephan,

No offense taken, even if it was intended (which I know it wasn't). I am just here to remind everone who thinks such nonsense just what some of us think about the whole situation. I do not seek to insult anyone but I also don't base my comments on where someone is from before dismissing their opinion or debating them. Regardless of where I am from, I am here for the last 15 years, am a resident & this is where I call home. I want to bring the internet home for all the children & workers who have it during the day, only to come home at night & not bither with dialup. You would think that would be embraced by anyone I offered this to, right? No, it has been an uphill battle & as 1 Boydton Town council member asked at a meeting, "Isn't having the internet a choice?" My answer is yes, if you want to live as if it was still 1950! I will be around & likely become a bit more "involved" over ethanol & other issues facing "OUR" future.

So do you have your own business for broadband or have i missed something. Believe me my friend i agree with you completely. I work in the computer business myself and work for a school. Trust me it makes me so mad to go froma DS3 connection to plain jane dial up. But the elders do not understand the importance of the net and what having a faster connection is about. So what are you trying to offer. Is it a broad band over land lines sollution or is it wireless. If it is wireless you may want to talk to me offline about that in this area. I worked for an ISP that offered it and i was the one resposible for its deployment. I know some things and if you have not used it before then you may want to know what i have to say. If you have used it in this scale then disregard. I am like you i would love to see something come around here and would help to get it here but that is my two cents. by the way i love how you finished your comment with "OUR" Future. You are exaclty right and i wish that everyone here would understand thoes words. This thing about thinking about your own personal interest and not the big picture needs to stop. If you wish to get involved in the ethanol issue please feel free to come by and talk to us or come to one of our meetings. Even if you are agianst it. We are about the facts and if you have some we havent heard then please give them to us. Maybe i am reading this wrong but i get the impression you are either neutural of leaning towards. In either case we would love to meet you and anyone else in person. Your opinions are and always will be welcomed.

broadband4all, let me make Stephens directions a bit clearer. Coming fom the Boydton area, go to the second stop light. It's located in front of Wachovia Bank. Take a left and go 1 block. The Car Quest is located to your right just after you cross Boyd and 5th streets. You can't miss it. The support Osage signs are in the window. Hope to see you there Wednesday at 7pm. All are welcome, bring a friend.

Do the rest of you keep up with the letters to the editor in the News-Progress? I wish I'd kept copies of them so I could show people how their arguements against the ehtanol plant have shifted from one thing to another.

First it was going to blow up half the town, then when people started to see how unrealistic that was they started harping on the traffic it would produce. After most people woke up to the fact that Chase City could not only handle the traffic but needed it, they shifted to smells and now the lake.

Their arguements are getting thinner and thinner by the week.

Oh and that's not all, they have been going around to churches and asking to speak to congregations. This is not gossip. I personally talked to a church member who confirmed this. Can you imagne interupting a church service just to try and sway people. Look, I'm no saint by any stretch but there are some things I still consider off limits. I just think it's vile and contemptuous. It just strikes me as wrong to eter a holy place, and recruit people using at best distorted facts and at worst out right lies. It makes me both sad and mad. SHAMEFUL

Why don't they just Get the Robert E. Lee auditorium and have a public meeting if they want to get their "cause" out to the people? Or would that invite questions they don't want to answer whereas ambushing people in church does not?

I've had more than one older person tell me they felt like they had to sign that petition because they felt pressured. That is bad enough, but using worship time to try to talk people into serving the interests of a few is beyond contempt.

I'm sure they are afraid to hold an open meeting like Concerned Citizens for Progress did. Whe they did thiers they invited officials from the state dept. of agriculture, Osage owner Graig Sheely, and chief engineer Tim Richter,Extension agengt, and others to speak and then set aside 2 hours for general public questions. The general public all but booed them out of the place. Do you really think they'd fare better if they held a general public meeting? I don't. But this does make for a really good proposal. CCP should suggest APM to an have open discussion at the R.E. LEE just as we did. A put up or shut up challenge. I think I'll bring that up at next weeks meeting. Thanks for the idea NG.

Well see if you do that then one they can't debat. Simply because you would have to think on the fly. Since all they know is opinions it would be hard to do that because there is no real research to build thier argument upon. Second, that would mean that some of there ahhhhm facts would soon be discovered to be opinions and in some cases lies. The bad thing is i know that they are still reading this. Yet they do not wish to respond to any of our statements. That in itself is proof as to what is going on around here. Now we have the leader agian leaving. Hmmm what does that say about them. Let me try....
I want my way and that is no plant in this area. But since i cant have my way then i will leave and that will show you. NAH NAH!

You see most common sense people would just wait and see what happens. The property value will be no different now then if the plant come. Simply because if some one comes to look at the place now they will see the signs and ask questions. So at this point any value that it is going to loose is already in the works as a wary buyer isnt going to be intrested if it is that big of a deal to have one of thoes plants around.
Is it possible that she has made her self unwelcomed by her insults. Or is it just her way of ill show them. In either case it does not matter to me. Perhaps the next time she wants to call a goup of people that she lives with stupid maybe she will think. But then agian we see the record as far as that is concerend.

By the way i was approached with this yesterday so i will clear this up now. I was asked if the alias that i have on this is my real name. YES IT IS!!!!!. I want you to know who is saying what i am saying. If you cant say something and let your name be tied to what you are saying then it isnt worth saying at all. Now for the ones here with the alias please do not take offense. I do not think less of anyone because that is what they choose to do that. But i personally fell like that more people will respect what i am saying if they know that i am willing to let my real name be known. I also do not fell that what you have posted on here is any less important or worthless then mine just because you have an alias. Its just me and i am proud that i am willing to stand up to this in this manner. I am also very strong in my convictions. So that is why my alias is my name. Also i want it to be known that i am a business owner for a business that i run on the side. I do not care if anyone chooses not to do business with me becuase i am in support of this plant. frankly if that is how you have to do business then i am not intrested. I am a fair person in my business practices and expect the same in return. I have done business just this weekend with a person that i know to be agianst it. IT IS THIER OPINION AND THEY ARE ENTITLED TO IT!!!!.
Now in no way is this to be implied to the ones that are in business and are for it that are not saying anything. I understand that it is thier living and they have to do what they have to. However i know that alot of them are not saying anything because they fear rebuke. I respect you because again that is your opinion. However i do want everyone to know that this is going on and it is not fair that these people have to fell this way because of thier opinion.
