May and should are two totally different things. Clearly we should not admit illegals to tax payer supported schools even if the feds say we "may."

Why aren't illegals invaders considered fugitives and those who employ and rent to them considered aiding and abetting?

Free. your problem is you are asking an intelligent question of the US legal system. They don't know how to deal with it!

"""....Until the State Board of Community Colleges discusses the opinion at its next meeting, the system will keep the policy it adopted this year to refuse admission to students who are in the country illegally.

Federal law addresses college financial aid, not admission, for illegal aliens, wrote ICE official Jim Pendergraph, former sheriff of Mecklenburg County. States may decide whether to admit the students..."""

Keep to the policy damn it!!!
Feds shouldn't worry if they---the illegal is in college or not---their worries should be about getting them---the illegal alien the hell outta here, pronto...

Looking back over this, then the Feds shouldn't even consider "Financil aid" to undocumented non-citizens of the USA...So, it all falls back on the Federal Government to do their damn job, and let these colleges teach the citizens, those documented for school or work---but not the illegal alien...

I think we all have a say so in our local community colleges. Raise a little hell!! I know I am.

Please stop bleeding the American tax payer dry, while giving government handouts to illegals.

Hold President Bush responsible for an ill conceived war, supported by a bi partisan vote.

Hold President Bush responsible for poor economic knowledge which probably led to a housing dip and an oil price spike.

There is more, but I beg you find Republicans poorly led by a poor leader, but please stop allowing the flood of illegals which swamp our government system.

Rumor has it that Bush will use his executive power at the end of his term to give all illegal a Presidental pardon. I guess he might as well, they aren't doing anything to stop them from comin into the country anyhow.

Yea, come on down,to the free land of milk and honey, or tacos and jalapano;s.

I’m thinking the article is saying the N.C. Community College System is not responsible for “policing” applicants regarding illegal entry to the USA. That responsibility rests with other agencies charged with that responsibility.

However, awarding tuition to illegal immigrants through financial aid is a violation of Federal law and the N.C. Community College System is charged to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Well, that’s a bit of a Catch 22 don’t you think? The only way to know if an applicant is eligible to receive financial aid to pay for tuition is to do a background check our contract to have background checks performed which amounts to “policing”.

Should the State Board of Community Colleges rescind or weaken its current policy or neglect to enforce its current policy, then every thinking tax paying citizen of North Carolina should petition for the immediate removal of all incumbent seats on State Board of Community Colleges. And then replace those seats with members willing and ready to enforce and strengthen a policy that prohibits enabling “illegal” immigrants!
