I'm just asking...

when he shot the kid, was he defending his life and property (remember, the boys had left the house and he chased them down with his car),

or was he angry and bent on getting revenge for the robbery. If the latter, how is it different than any other drive-by shooting.

It's either self-defense or murder. This is what the police and courts will have to decide

This is what should be the norm and we should read stories like this everyday. If someone breaks into your house. Shoot them. You have the right to protect your family & property

Yes, you have the right to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your property. But, does that give you the right to jump in your car, drive several blocks, and shoot someone who is no longer threatening you dead on the street after you were robbed. Is that protecting yourself or is it revenge?

Yes,yes, and YES!!! JUstice and revenge. We prefer justice;however Charlotte citizens, like this homeowner, face a dysfunctional criminal justice system. If society,i.e. THE SYSTEM,fails to both prevent crime and punish criminals;we are entitled to self-defense and/or revenge.I would have shot all 4 of them.

the man was definately still in shock from the event, not to mention the trama he suffered during the invasion. He will have a great defense and I hope that he will be brave enough to pull the trigger the next time the thugs seek out his home, and they will.

It's good to see people taking a stand against the little thuglets, that is what they are after all...I mean, they could have been looking for work or helping take care of the community and....What about being contributing members of society? I guess that kind of stuff is just a little too "White" for them to take part in...or is it that the thuglets will make any excuse to be detrimental to society? I hope someone gets involved with these kids and gives them a better direction in life. I don't want to hear about kids getting shot simply because the community doesn't give a rat's tail about them and lets them get away with this crap. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

A lot of blame should be placed upon Charlotte, as they manage to cover up or down play the violence that goes on within the uptown streets. Most of the crap that happens, you never hear about it. Even the gang problems are hushed up for the general public. Its all about appearances. Heck, I heard the news boast that 10% decrease in the cities homeless population. But unfortunately a 10% increase of the states homeless population was reported at the same time. When the powers that be in uptown charlotte are faced with pressure from public opinion, they might start cracking down on the lawlessness thugs that are overtaking their fine upstanding city, and driving the top dollar dogs away from town. Who has a reported 150 known gangs in their town? That is some scary stuff. I am glad the old man hunted them down. He had more balls than 98% of his neighbors. Yeah, go grandpa.

So, if I'm reading all of you correctly, it is justifiable to take the law into your own hands, go out and kill someone. The man was in no more danger to his life or property, yet he chose to extract revenge by killing his attackers. That make it right in your eyes, right?

That's what I basically said on the other thread. The guy was just tied up and robbed, saw his wife threatened probably, of course he was under duress. Probation.
He was 76 for God's sake, maybe these punks will learn the hard way.

If the System no longer serves to protect you I say take the law into your own hands.

He was under duress. They probably threatened him and his wife. If they did it to some gang banger the gang banger would come back and wipe a whole bunch of them out. Pull that crap in a primarily Italian or Irish neighborhood in Boston or NYC or some other major city and see what happens. He who lives by the sword dies by the sword

This is the kind of story you would expect to see if some kids happened to mistakenly break into Clint Eastwoods house. I think he was justified in his actions. Don't threaten someone if your victim can make you the victim instead. Not telling everyone to grab a gun and be a vigilante, but this guy should not be convicted. Not Guilty.

The old man was totally in shock when he jumped into his car to persue his attackers. Had he been thinking clearly he would never have persued 6 bangers alone out on the streets. Common sense would have kicked in and it would have never happened. He was in shock from the trama of the event. Not guilty.

The message needs to be sent that people cannot take the law into their own hands. The man needs to go down, he isn't any better than gangbangers shooting each other over turf.

He was acting like an animal hoodlum out of control, he's lucky some bystander off duty cop didn't shoot him while he was perpetrating a vigilante crime of murder.
