Fbi Investigation: Federal air marshal faces charges tied to scam

A Charlotte-based federal air marshal faces federal charges that he helped cover up a scheme involving the sale of blank checks allegedly stolen from Wachovia, according to U.S. District Court documents.
Claude Michael Kahn, 45, is accused of accepting unlawful gratuities in exchange for participating in the scheme and giving false statements to investigators, court records report. He was arrested Friday and released on bond Monday from Mecklenburg County jail.
A U.S. District Court complaint filed Friday alleges Kahn discovered the illegal operation in October, but did not report it to authorities. He instead accepted $1,000 in cash, along with meals, drinks and entertainment, in exchange for using his position as a federal air marshal to shield the check thefts, court documents report.
