Sheriff Joe just needs to take over the law enforcement duties of both Calhoun and Niota. Nothing in either of those Towns but political crap. Both towns are listed on Speedtrap.com as areas to avoid and there's no tourist draw. I have never understood why either town has a police department an a Volunteer Fire Dept.
Wouldn't it be better to have a town constable and then after 6pm allow the sheriffs dept to take over? But then again the constable would be a political "Good Ole Boy" appointment just like the city seats.

I know both Keith and John and they are bullies with badges. I hope this ends their career. They should never have been allowed to be police officers in the first place. Niota will better off without them. I pray we get some real police officers that will work for the citizens of Niota and make Niota a better place to live, work, and visit.

Towns like Etowah, Athens, Niota, Calhoun don't even need a police department. They should just call the county.

I remember the good ole days, back when every time the sheriff changed they would clean house and hire new cops or at least fire the ones that harassed people and they had complaints filed against them. That pretty much did away with all the “professional” policemen and that was a good thing. It kept them from getting too big for their britches. Yes, I long for the days when there were no radar guns in the county vehicles. They would only show up if you called them.

Seems to me this whole mess could have been avoided if the guy had just stopped, talked to the officer, explained that he was unaware that he needed a tag/registration, or whatever and told him he just lived what I believe was stated in the news to be about 800 yards away. I believe the officer would have probably allowed him to walk the bike, or maybe even drive it to his home while he drove behind him in the cruiser. But this guy apparently had an attitude and didn't comply with anything the officer was trying to do. What if it was ok for anyone to walk or drive off away from an officer who had pulled us over?

first of all, this guy wasnt pulled over, he was followed by the offers in question,(no lights or sirens) for a few miles and then when the guy got to his residence, the officers then went onto his property to ask for his paperwork. when the guy walked into his residence to show the paperwork, the offers followed him in then proceeded to beat the guy down to the ground in front of his wife and daughter, which by the way was captured on video tape by his wife and daughter.

Why did he lie to the news crews and say he was pulled over THEN followed? Who readily has a video camera at hand to " capture" these things? Why did he lie and say he was living in a van when he drives a camper to the meetings? Why does his booking photo show him with clean hair if he was " lying in a pool of blood and brains?" I know personally when I had my head split open and staples put in they didn't give me a shampoo and a style before I left the ER. Sounds like a set up to me.

he didnt lie,he was never "pulled over", he was followed to his residence, where he was living at the time, once inside the officers beat him and his wife happened to have a video camera , and that van/camper IS what he is now living in, and dont forget, this happend a year ago. do you expect him to still be covered in blood for almost a year? and if there was a booking photo, im sure he was cleaned up before the photo was taken and left from the hospital. any time you have a head wound, your hair is cut, scalp cleaned, then stiched (or stapled), i know, because i also had a head wound that required staples (20 of them) in the back of my skull from when i was mugged 15 years ago.

The booking picture was taken that night, his hair was not shaved clean etc. It WAS however clean and dry with no signs of blood or trauma. And so he did lie, by telling the news reporters he was living in the van, not the camper. I sure hope the judge catches up with all this ( and other fibs) and charges him with perjury. LOL

ok, Stuart you say he was never pulled over? why did he tell the news crew he was? this was copied from the wrcb website where the interview video is posted....."He says it all started when he made a U-turn on his moped when the officers, 22-year-old Jonathan Scott and 45-year-old Keith McCarter, pulled out of a truck stop and pulled him over.

When Stewart didn't have his registration, they followed him to where his mobile home used to be, to get it. " So who is lying? you?? him?? or are you one in the same? I thing rtoodtoo may be onto something here....

i stand corrected, and i appoligize. i only found out today that mr. stewart WAS pulled over. the reason he was making the "U"turn was to go back to his residence to get some paperwork because he was on his way to a town meeting and forgot them, thats when the 2 officers followed mr. stewart back his residence, followed him inside then proceeded to beat him down onto the floor in front of his wife and daughter....... here is an update....... i just came from an emergency noita town meeting, there were many people there, some offiicles, others townsfolks. i sat and heard everything that went on, motions to terminate the 2 officers, motions to suspend WITH pay, and motions to sus...pend WITHOUT pay. it was deffinetly a heated debate.....one person quoting city and state government laws, others trying to figure out what legalities would happen down the road, if exhonerated of the charges would the city want to reinstate the 2 officers, and so on and so on.....in the end, the committe voted to suspend the 2 officers WITHOUT pay untill such time as they are cleared of any and all charges, then they will hold another committe meeting to decide wether or not to have them come back to work for the city.......next is the criminal trial of these 2 officers which will be on april 30th at the mcminn county courthouse in athens tennessee starting at 9 am.

@ rtoodtoo. your right, where the staples were placed, it was not shaved, and thata very supprizing because when i had to have staples put in the back of MY head, they shaved the srounding area so it was sterile and clean. my mother was a nurse for almost 60 years, (GOD rest her soul) and she told me that is the way its SUPPOSED to be done.....shaved, washed, and clean. why they didnt do this to mr. stewart is beyond me.

They didn't do it to me either. The new standard ( I'm guessing) is to squirt a sterile solution on the area then sew or staple it up. They sent me home with wet hair matted with blood and told me not to wet the area around the wound for 24 hours. It felt horribly nasty to me. That's why I don't understand why in his booking picture his hair is clean AND dry. For him to have gotten not only staples BUT stitches also, wouldn't his hair have been disheveled a bit more? Or at least wet with solution/blood. Just seems to me he is exagerating the facts.

good morning everyone:

well back in the "old days" thats not how it was done. my mom was a nurse from WAY BACK, in fact, she graduated from st. frances nursing college in trenton new jersey back in 1942 and thats not how they did things back then. it was shave, clean with betadine,(or what ever they used back then), then put the sutures,(stiches) in. after getting her masters degree at the age of 55, she became the public health nursing supervisor for the city of elizabeth new jersey for the next 35 years untill she retired bcak in the late 1980's. i know he had staples in his head because i saw them myself. it was good having a mom as a nurse growing up as i was alway getting cut, scraped, brused, broken bones, lol. i guess today its a different attitude, get em in, fix em up, get em out.

and this is to hmmm, as far as the van or camper goes, its a van conversion. im sure you've seen them before, and the building he was at was a commercial building not zoned for living in, thats why he had his van/camper/motorhome parked next to the building. he worked out of the building and lived in the van/camper, motorhome. and i can assure you we are NOT the same people. if you notice i spell my name in the brittish verson,STUART....... stewart is the american version of the name. if you want, you may come to the mcminn county court house in athens tennessee to watch and listen to the proceedings on the 30th of this month to the criminal trial of these 2 accused officers. both MR. STEWART, AND myself will be there.

I remember as a kid when you seen the niota police it was exciting and fun to talk to them and as a young adult it was the same even when they pulled me over for a loud muffler or tail lights not working ,now I have to be fearful of my well being if the Niota Nazis even see me out and i am doing nothing wrong
