Get rid of the entire City Council and put in some new young blood with some vision. All the se members are living in the past and want us all to stay there with them.

“Distrust Elected Officials ” Since: Apr 08
Rutherfordton ISP: Sylva, NC |
Block voting is the key. Two current members urge their supporters to vote for them only and leave the other choices blank. This in effect strengthens the vote for that candidate because no one else is getting a vote. I propose that we vote only for the new candidates, be it one two or three and not vote for anyone sitting. That way we are assured of "new blood". Enough already of the same old stuff.

Mayor Clark is a class act and has served Marion well as our Mayor. I wish him all the best.

Colormeblue must have thought Joe Jones was a saint too.
BLOCK VOTE IS THE WAY.. NEW BLOOD ON ELECTION DAY!! |

I also think new blood would be good. I think the current mayor and all the city council members care deeply about Marion, but we seem to be stuck in a rut. Fresh people with new ideas may be just the spark Marion needs to be the leader for once. We've got a great-looking small town with a lot of opportunity. Now all we need is leadership willing to help the town grow to its full potential.

Vote for Juanita Doggett to begin the process. She's smart; has fresh ideas and is beholden to noone. She probably won't bring more speed bumps or traffic crossing lights though. Let's change now or quit griping about those we re-elect every other year.

One answer fits all apparently. Any original thoughts in that vacuous head? |

I am certain the present members of council began with the best of intensions. However, when it becomes a matter of personal pride about how many years you have been on the council, when you are seemingly trying to break a record for the most years spent on the council or when you don't really live in the city full time I must question the true purpose of that candidate's reasons for continually trying to continue to be elected. There is a reason the president can only serve two terms and our govenor serve only two consecutive terms. Think about it. Is the candidacy really for themselves and personal motives or to serve the people?
We need progressive thinking candidates with fresh ideas and fresh thoughts having a true desire to serve the people and not candidates simply serving their ego and their particular group. People living in poorer economic areas of the city are just as entitled to the quality and quantity of services as those living on Garden Street, Broad Street and Logan Street. Does anyone really believe we are better off now than we were 4 years ago? I think term limits on council would be a great idea. Its all a lie about taxes not going up in ever how many years they all crow about. Do you know anyone paying the same thing they were before the last reevaluation? Sure, the tax rate has stayed the same but the values have increased. Are you paying the same now for water and sewer you were last year? Heck no, the rates have gone up the last 4 years in a row and its already been announced its going up again next year. Do you know of anyone paying the same now for taxes they were 16 years ago? No, your values have gone up and so has your bill. Term Limits. Block voting. Retake out city from the same old dull routine. Its time for the city to move on from the same old same old way of doing things. Look at Rutherfordton, Black Mountain and Morganton. Why not Marion? I guarantee unless there is big changes in the members of council spruce Pine and not Marion will be the next Rutherfordton. Drive down there and look and see for yourselves. it was a ghost town like marion but certainly not anymore. |

Yes. In fact, one answer does fit all for the redneck, backwoods, toothless livermush eatin' crowd that resides in Mc by gosh Dowell County. |

Dito Downtown Outbound.

We need another choice for Mayor. If there is only one person running, we do not get a CHOICE, just a change of face and the same old thing.
I vote for Cliff McLarty to run against Steve Little. I know they know each other, but McLarty seems to be the only one who will state what's on his mind and do something about it. He at least is bringing in Walmart and got the liquor by the drink to vote. Those are the type of changes that need to be going on around here. What's your take on this choice. If you agree, let's start calling Cliff and bugging him to run. |

Block vote, block vote, block vote for everyone not holding office currently. Enough is enough.
Its well past time for new blood, new ideas and people not just stroking their egos. Bet ole Bobby Boy is quaking in his boots that the First Baptist Alliance has a chance of having its stranglehold broken, first city council then on to the clerk of court & county commission. Regular people, lests take back our government. |
