No, it has nothing to do with it. More likely due to lack of care. Most of the flowers you see are planted and need to be irrigated. They are not native.i visit the hawaiian islands every year. last summer on kauai i noticed that alot of the flowers looked pale in color and sickly. to me the plants just did not look right. my friends agreed. i have to wonder if it has anything to do with the "VOG"?
