Top Gun the sad thing is you can do that all day long but here is the reality.

You can take out the local dealers and make a dent in the problem. But the bigger cities have smelled out our little "mayberry" town. So for every one Detroit/Columbus dealer taken off the street there are five more waiting they're turn. A drug court would help. Arrested, in front of the judge the following day and sentenced. Because all these guys are doing is bailing and running back to thier city and hiding out. After awhile the cops get burned out putting thier lives on the line for some scum bag that walks anyway. In turn you get dirty cops. They don't get paid enough so they take money from drug dealers and tip them off when shit is about to hit the fan. It's a vicious cycle that's only going to get worst. The best thing you can do is educate the kids and instead of the cops driving brand new chargers put the money into youth activity. Build a skate park with a stage for bands to come play for underage kids. Charge a cover the maintenance of the park is taken care of and there is a profit. Do you know how many "Christian" rap and rock acts there are. I don't care about religion but so you include everybody and make the parents feel safe go the route. That's just one idea of many things that could be done for the kids. I mean snow comes pick a nice hill and have an intertubing facility. When you start from nothing the potentials are endless.
I totally agree with you!!! I'm so sick and tired of kids saying there's nothing to do. I can think of hundreds of things to do besides drugs!! That's just a cop out and the kids' way to try to justify themselves!! The river front should be hopping with entertainment and such every weekend. I know there are some talented adults in this town...why not offer a free class where kids could come and learn to make something and take it home (ie: tie dye shirts, chocolate suckers, painted pottery etc.) What about some type of competitions like a singing or dance off?? Or just a place to socialize?? What about getting the kids involved in painting some murals inside a building or on the outside of an older one that needs spruced up?? It doesn't have to be ran by a church group and be all about God...you can't shove that down anyone's throat but you can show love and support and God is still right there!!! Let me be clear...I love the Lord and wouldn't mind if everything was church lead but sometimes teens won't go in fear of being pressured about religion. In any case, I think these types of activities would help so much!! I would be honored to be part of something like that for kids of all ages!! The sense of entitlement kids have is unreal and needs to be over!!! I know this first hand! I am a mother and my children are grown now but I went through pure hell with them as teens but I never stopped fighting for them to do the right thing. It's just been in the past couple of years that my kids have said thanks mom and that they are glad I didn't just sit back and let them do whatever they wanted!!!! Anyway just my thoughts....

Well, I just checked the names with the Western Regional Jail page. Only Shawn Swisher remains at the facility--and I'm having doubts if it's the same guy mentioned in the news story because the one in jail is thirty-one years old and is in for parole violation. The age of the Swisher in the news story is twenty-nine. Pretty pathetic.

Why not build a skate park or an arcade, some kind of recreation center as a haven for kids who want to hang out and just be good kids. I know I would have went for that when I was younger instead of turning to drugs....all youth is troubled but that doesnt mean they have to get high to find fun and be happy......as a community we need to pull together and find a way to raise the funds for a brighter drug free future!

Point Pleasant is becoming a "little Detroit" because so many young kids think it is cool to be on drugs and sell drugs to make easy money, this town is horrible anymore. I remember when I was younger we never had to lock our doors at night, we could walk down the street at 10 pm with our dog and not have to worry if someone is gonna rob or sell anything. I hate this town so much but husband works here so I have to stay.

Want to know why there is a drug problem in this town? Well that's simple, there are zero jobs well besides your fast food joints and a foodland and a couple of dollar stores. I guarentee if point would actually expand to meet expansion of the population in the last 10 years you wouldn't have this problem. Exactly what do we have for our kids to do around here. If they don't play football then they have nothing. Build a skatepark, build a go kart course. Build something for Christ sake. And of course people are going to sell drugs over work minumum wage. They can sit on they're ass and make $200 in an hour. It's common sense really
When living in this state there were jobs and people were helped and made to work for their assistance. You should be made to prove u have a disability. And not take advantage of "the system" have them to work for it or be cut off. Just my opinion!!

I agree! And do better reviews and have them work for assistant. But our kids need more to do in this town.!!!!! If able to work let them work it off. Maybe if some people didn't abuse the "System" here they would be able to help our children more! In the "Hole" their children go apt. To apt. While they entertain their whatever. And this is a fact! <quoted text>it's already happening as we worry. We have to think what's the worst of two evils. Oxy 80's or herion. When the 80's are finally gone then the herion will bust wide open. Then the overdose deaths will triple. At least when these scum bags are shooting up oxycontin they know what's they are getting. With herion you have no idea what these high school drop out street chemist are going to be cutting this junk with. Kids are going to start dropping like flies. For one herion is much cheaper so a couple days lunch money will be a hell of a high. I'm not saying that it's bad that they are trying to address the pill problem. But when they go it's not like people are going to quit. And when herion really hits god help us all. This town will look like a zombie movie. And the violent crimes are going to sky rocket.
Your always going to have something else! Opanas, Herion or whatever. Teach our children about choices and get the people on state assistance to have to work for their assistance! Tax $ allows them to have live-ins and not work! Better reviews from the state and if no reason why they can't work or proof of it -TAKE IT! it starts with the parents!

Hey there's the answer to our prayers ! Bring on the herion, and open free needle clinics. Build more caskets, and invest in our local funeral homes. Once all the druggies are all dead, we can open up our little piece of heaven to all the good people in the world, and maybe get that skate park. Boy won't that make a difference. Someone wake Dorthey (17) up! Bring back public hangings, paddling in schools, parents right to bust your ass when you do something wrong, send people to jail for long periods of time, NOT home confinement, or Adult day care (Day report). People there are convicts out here on unsupervised home confinement ! WTF is that? FELONS ! WTF ? I could take a pack of gum and be sentenced for life. One more thing, if you think that this is just a Point Pleasant problem, then you don't get out much. Ask any officer in any town, and they will say the same thing is going on in their little piece of the world.
. I agree! And put our tax dollars to work for the children! But you have to start with the people taking advantage of the system who are able to work to set a good example for their children! If able to work and just choose not too take their assistance and give drug test to them!

Will be praying for your son and family. You can't blame yourself for his choices. Addiction affects good kids from good families too. If he would be willing to go, there is a great program near Columbus area called The Refuge for men with drug addictions. It's faith based and I have a family member there right now.

Good advice. Thank you for not condemning someone seeking help. Unlike, probably, ever other comment already or will be made. Addiction is real. It is a fact of life. Most of the people bashing these addicts are addicts themselves. They don't realize how wide that term actually stretches. If you HAVE to have a cup of coffee before you can deal with the world, that cigarette before you even check your messages, that Dr. Pepper, that salon appointment before you face society, have to gamble because you had a hard day, even if you go crazy if you don't have internet (to check your stocks, Facebook, or even porn) THAT is an addiction! I have tried to quit smoking so many times, it's seems so impossible, I cannot imagine trying break free from an addiction of a hard drug. In a way I think it's their fault for ever starting but on the other hand, I inderstand. Why did I ever start smoking? If I die from cancer, should no one mourn my death because obviously I knew what would happen? Would my family and friends be ostracized for grieving for someone who "had it coming?" That's what is seems like people do to survivors of addicts. I realize I've been rambling on to a "reply." Sorry, none of that (except the first couple lines) were meant for you. I've just been rambling.

Detroit sends their black soldiers down here to set up shop with a white whore. They sell drugs, a lot of drugs and if they get caught they plead guilty to fed charges and get ten years in prison. They get out in 2-5 years and do it again. Just the price of doing business.

it's not the towns responsibility to find shit for your kid to do... I grew up in this town and still live here and I find all kinds of things to do... The kids don't want to do anything period... You could have all kinds of shit to do and I bet you couldn't get 10 kids off the phone or computer to do something.. Problem is your raising a bunch of pussys... Don't bitch about nothing to do,, if you are then it's your fault as a parent....
