Please tell me that no intelligent adult is having any doubt as to whether this man is guilty or innocent??? If in 2007 there was enough EVIDENCE to have a jury trial regarding his "harrassing" a FIFTH GRADER!!!!! Was the entire judicial system "picking" on The Country Day School Mama's "boy" then too???? Children are 10 years old in 5th grade! Since, he's a teacher at Country Day School, he has access to PRE~K!!! Maybe he'll start with the ones who don't and can't say or understand!! SICKENING! And to his mother~ no parent wants to believe thier child is a monster...but honey please...your son is SICK and does anyone else's child deserve to suffer for LIFE bcs of what your son's deviant behavior did to them???!?!!?? You have got to protect the innocence of your students and let your GROWN son take responibility for his own APPAULING CHOICES!! God help everyone involved....especoially the child (children?)

This is amazing. I literally drove by this school the day before this news broke and said that I couldn't believe this man was still teaching and that people were actually willing to enroll their children in this school and allow him around them. The next day this hits the news. The truth will always prevail. It just takes time. I hate to think how many kids have suffered as much as the kids I know of who left there years ago did and probably more since he managed to get away with it. I am so glad this girl finally decided to do the right thing and come forward. My prayers go out to her for strength and encouragement during this time as I know how this family and their lawyer will try everything in their power to slander her and destroy her. Keep your head up and stay strong girl and know you have all the kids and parents who were with you before when you wouldn't talk standing with you today. You have nothing to lose and have the ability to bring your perpetrator to justice and save so many other childern from abuse.

Well this is why we have a criminal justice system. To determine what really happened. In the wake of the penn state situation any accusation by a child to the police is going to result in an action of some type even if the accuser has mental issues, drug abuses issues or not.

As the parent of a student at Country Day, and having known Brett Naff and Sheri Naff for several years, I find these charges OUTLANDISH and UNFOUNDED. The same student , and her parents, who thought Mr Naff to be too strict back in 2006 and tried the FALSE and OUTLANDISH charges then are back at it now. And I remind the population at large that people are innocent until proven guilty. A jury heard the last false charges against Mr Naff because he refused to "plea deal" as an innocent man, and he was acquitted by that jury who heard all the evidence.

The above posters are right in one respect, the truth WILL come out, and the clearing of Mr Naff on these charges will be page 6 news while the slanderous charges as filed made the front page.

My children also attend Country Day School and we stand behind Brett. Country Day School is a great school. Brett may be strict on the kids but he is not a child abuser. I pray for him and his family that the truth will come out soon.

The "same student" who pressed charges in 2006 had enough evidence for the judge to declare the man guilty. It went to trial based on an appeal and we all know how trials by jury's can go. Just because he was found "not guilty" doesn't mean the man was innocent. Also...that student that the above parent and the attorney claims to be the "same student" isn't in college yet so this whole story by those who jump to defend him doesn't even make sense. The girl who was in question of having an inappropriate relationship with this man years ago is not the same one who pressed charges for harassment nor is she in college yet. The whole spill about all those parents who tried to bring accountability to this school years ago being on a witch hunt today is actually so lame its comical. Guess that's what was going on with Penn State. Kids who grew into adults and realized they had a civic responsibility to come forward and bring accountability. Thats a witch hunt. Wow.....

To "Confused" and "Apalled"-- "Just because he was found "not guilty" doesn't mean the man was innocent." Does this mean if he IS found guilty, the judicial system did not work either? By the way, to "Confused," the plural of jury is "juries," not "jury's," which is singular possessive--where did you go to school? Talk about ignorance!

In addition, the attorney did not say she was the "same student." You had rather blast someone without your facts being straight; and, if you're wrong, it's the "jury's" [sic] fault. I hope no one comes after either one of you with vicious lies.

Dear Confused.- I understand how you could be confused if you were not involved in the situation 5 to 7 years ago.

Yes there were some disgruntled parents a few years back. Most of there problems stemmed from the facts that there kids had trouble learning in an environment in which children were not allowed to not participate. The children are required to put forth an effort and do the best they can do based on abilities. Some parents could not handle this envirornt for their children and sought up withdraw with a full refund which is against the known policy. There were other reasons also such as a child getting hurt during a sporting event. They even went so far as to attempt to sue for $150,000
Each.

You need to ask why the police, DHR or the parents did not pursue this cases years ago. They all new about it and decided it was without merit.

Maybe now that the girl is adult she has been talked into pursuing this because I'd the folllowup civil suit she can file which should easily be paid by the insurance company

My family attends CDS and we appreciate the staff including Brett Naff and we will continue to due so.

To “Another Parent”—thanks for setting this story straight. I apologize for being so upset, but if the charges had been true 5-7 years ago, a jury would have found Naff guilty. In the meantime, there has never been another charge against him. Along comes this accusation—from that time period and at that time rejected—and another vigilante group seems to want to crucify this man. Please get your facts in order. Do not make this case into a McMartin School tragedy.

Another Parent (or ny other poster with knowledge)--

Did the "disgruntled parents a few years back" have children in the preschool or upper grades? My son just started preschool and we are very pleased. I am just wondering if they were displeased with the preschool as well because I have had a great experience thus far.

Like CDS Preschool Parent above, I'm also wondering about other families' experiences.

My child just started Kindergarten there and we love it. Teachers are phenomenal and my child can't wait to get to school in the morning. BUT, I knew nothing about any problems, past or present, in the upper grades when we enrolled.

We were kind of hoping to stay at CDS as long as we could, but now I'm sort of just waiting to see what happens and how things are handled.

Any experienced person want to put in their 2 cents? Like I said earlier, we are very happy currently, my child's teachers take great care of their students, but going forward, I'm a little nervous.

Knowing what you know, would you keep your child there or not?

thanks.

As another parent stated earlier, the prior allegation was a result of a parent wanting to withdraw, with a complete refund of tuition, which is directly against the contract they signed, citing that the teacher was "too strict" when their child was reprimanded and graded accordingly for NOT participating, as is the requirement there in the upper grades.

That type of allegation is not too very uncommon in education, sadly, and is often handled by a "buy-out", no one admits any guilt and the plaintiff gets a "paycheck" and thus never makes news. Ostensibly this is what the plaintiffs wanted to happen, as they asked for $150k then. So kudos to CDS for refusing to bend to extortion.

There was no basis for filing charges on this current issue then, so the charge leveled was harassment, of which Mr Naff was found innocent. This "abuse" allegation , at that time, was investigated and not brought forward then because, frankly, it was either a lie, or without corroboration. Given the fact the acts allegedly took place between 6 and 7 years ago, and were investigated then, I just don't see anything new here to "find" especially given that the man is innocent of the allegation in the first place.

This appears to be a slanderous attack by a bitter family who think their privilege somehow entitles them to special treatment.

My child has been in the lowers grades and is now in the upper grades at CDS He loves go to school there because of the staff and because of fun learning atmosphere. I have seen many children flourish and grow at the schools. All the children get the attention and support that only a few would get in a public school or at a larger private school. Additionally, the children in the upper grades have learned to support and nourish each other. If I had another child I would put them and keep them in CDS

I have three children that attend CDS, including one that is taught by Mr. Naff. In the five years that we have been there I have never seen anything that made me question his integrity. He has been nothing but a positive influence to my child. It makes me very sad to see him being portrayed as some kind of monster in the media. It is a great school, and there are many, many great teachers there. Also when it comes to kids getting hurt - I am so thankful that they are one of the few schools around brave enough to not let lawyers ruin the ability to play real sports like football, soccer, etc. Sports sometimes lead to injury, but I'd accept my child having a broken arm from playing outside well before I'd accept obesity because of a school that won't them them do anything in which they could get hurt.

My daughter has been at CDS for 3 years and this is her second year in Brett Naff's class. The school is absolutely wonderful. The staff is very caring and attentive to the students. Mr. Naff is a great teacher and we do not believe this allegation for one moment. It hurts my heart for him and the school that people believe anything they read and jump to conclusions. Do kids lie? You bet your a$$! I'm guessing the young woman who made up this allegation is after some money and is troubled. Let's let the justice system do it's job...innocent until proven beyond a shadow of a doubt guilty. The school has our support as well as Brett Naff.

No. Go with your insticts. Put your child in a school with certified teachers. Your intuition and nervousness are justified. We waited too long, and regret not removing our child sooner. Also remember, this is a school with no board of directors, and is run solely by an owner who reaps the profits. Go.

My understanding is that the teachers in the elementary and middle schools do have teacher certifications in the state of Alabama. Is this not the case?

CDS has certified teachers (a couple have Masters Degrees as well), they also have a parent advisory board and the money made is put back into improving the school. Please just talk to families who have had children there for many years...from preschool-8th grade. This is an allegation and the attacks are from a group of vindictive people.
This school is TOP NOTCH. The teachers give individualized attention to each child. Their curriculum is individualized for each child. Do not listen to the allegations and disgruntled parents. These people let their kids run all over them and don't like it when a teacher actually expects the kids to do what they should do and listen to them.
It's a challenging job to teach and we respect Mr. Naff. He is hands down a wonderful teacher.

They may be certified but it is still a privatey run busines. Mom Naff has ultimate say in what goes on in her business. She has no one who oversees her. In other words, you are putting your trust in the character of one woman who has no oversight and no one who holds her accountable. I learned the hard way. Be careful not to buy into a sales pitch and by all means investigate the truth for yourself. By all means ask DHR those questions and ask yourself the obvious questions about the spin stories above. Any logical person who really is more interested in knowing the truth as opposed to just being told something that will make themselves feel better about ther decison to put ther child in this shool will see some obvious holes and glaring questions that are presented with the spin stories above. My children went there for years and my only regret is that I didn't take them out sooner. My children are honor students and athletic leaders. One is in college on an acdemeic scholarship and an athletic scholarship. The other is an honor student. They are not undisciplined kids who do not want to be pushed. Please listen to your gut instincts and don't just listen to one side of a story from someone wh is invested in the business or the person. Ask yourself the hard questions and be willing to face the truth. Parents don't see everything and kids will not talk while they are still in the environment nor will they even after they are out if the fear their parent's reaction. My child read these comments from the "parents" above and was furious with these parents for assuming that because they haven't seen anything that nothing is happening. This is a former student who knows what it is like to be on the inside and yes to be in the Naff cirlce. I have heard my children's stories. They had nothing to gain by talking to me.

Pedophiles are NOT deviates that hide out in the dark. They live among us and are often pillars of the community. They are teachers, doctors, lawyers, coaches and even our pastors. They are usually the last people that we would ever suspect. They ingratiate themselves to the parents and make the parents and their child feel “special”. This gains them the necessary trust and unimpeded access to your child so that they may have their way and satisfy their twisted sexual desires.

My child was there during this tumultuous time 7 years ago. They were one of Naff’s privileged soccer players and privy to all that happened. They have always been an honor student and now they are enrolled in a prestigious College. The things Naff said and did to our children would make your stomach turn. The guilt I experienced for years because I did not protect my child as I should have, still haunts me to this day. I was like so many of you, failing to “see” and wanting to believe in the goodness of all human beings. It’s hard to wrap your brain around the fact that someone would ever want to harm your child. Naff is a very sick and twisted individual. And his mother is complicit and has always known about his devaint behavior. She has gone out of her way to cover up for him and clean up his messes. Fortunately my family was able to heal and move on. We commend this girl's courage to finally speak out. We hope she knows she has an entire community of ex CDS parents; students and teachers behind her. We hope that this will give others the courage to come forward, because we believe they are out there.

For those of you who even doubt that there is any merit to this case, PLEASE start making phone calls and even talk to the police or DHR. Run Google searches and seek out former students, parents and teachers. Do not turn a blind eye and assume that just because you don't see it that it doesn't exist. Ask yourself how many people you know that have been arrested 3 times in their lifetime for NO reason. Do you really believe in "police conspiracy", like in the OJ Simpson case, or is it more likely that maybe they KNOW something and are determined to finally put him away? Then decide whether you want to support a school that would ever allow such things to happen.
