Three More Deaths In Alabama Linked To H1N1, Two In North Alabama

The Alabama Department of Public Health says three more people have died from the H1N1 virus in Alabama.

How are we supposed to get vaccinated if Alabama hasn't ordered any of the H1N1 vaccine? It showed on the CBS Evening News that Alabama was one of many states that has not ordered any yet. What's the deal on that?

I have had H1N1 for over a week now. I am still sick. This is a serious situation that has not been handled by the medical profession very well. Several students in my classroom have had this illness and our school has been affected by absenteeism.

If you notice that the 3 new deaths are over 50 in age. If you go to the CDC site and review how the use of the vaccine should be prioritized you will find that older people are last. This is a look into the future of our national health. Also saw some information today that a their is a shortage of the regular flu vaccine.

I don't think the vaccine will arrive in time to do much good. I am a volunteer firefighter/emt and am resigned to the fact that I will probably catch H1N1 before a vaccine is available. I also have 5 children in public schools and my concerns are more with them being protected. I have counseled them on proper preventive measures, but this is a serious threat. In a "wait and see" mode for the present.

My only comment is to research the effects of the vaccine. See if you can find the vaccine's ingredients. After researching as much as you can, then decide if the vaccine's benefits outweigh the risks.
You can find some really good news clips regarding the swine flu vaccine from 1976 or 1977 (I can't remember right off hand). Just be informed about what you put into your body. Doctors aren't always right.

My grandmother, who had beginning stages of Alheimers disease, took the flu shot. It caused her to have a stroke and sent her into a downward spiral that left her bed ridden for 2 years not even knowing her own name. I will not be taking the flu shot as I don't know what that my genetic makeup can handle it. I do take emergen C when I get colds. I got the flu last year, but I handle it by drinking a lot of fluids and staying home not spreading it to anyone else.

I think that the media madness on this disease is insane. I think it is a ploy to get people to buy this vaccination. If you look at polls, I imagine the number of people that had the flue last year will not fluctuate very much in comparison to this year. Don't buy into the media frenzy. You are not guarenteed not to get the flu if you get the shot.

As I understand it from the CDC about 36,000 Americans die from the regular seasonal flu each year. Funny I don't recall the media reporting each and every one the way they're doing with H1N1 (swine flu). Seems to me this is government sponsored hysteria fed by a willing main stream media. It would be refreshing to see some actual journalism coming from our media outlets instead of what passes for journalism nowadays.

Did you notice back in the Spring when H1n1 first broke out schools being closed down for days and cleaning crews being brought in and spraying disinfectant with large hoses like fire hoses? According to the CDC the flu virus normally survives outside of the body on a hard surface for only 2 to 8 hours. Do the math, it's not that difficult. Close a school at 3:00 pm add 8 hours and the virus dies on its own without anyone doing anything. Government bureaucrats are wasting money and feeding you BS - they depend on a media that's not doing any real journalism and the government educated public to swallow this story.

To "Concerned". You mentioned about folks over 50 not getting the vaccine in a high priority. Because this flu came through in 76 in similar form it is believed that most folks alive then have a potential immunity to it unless seriously compromised immune system. Or at least would not get it bad enough to cause death. The video they showed on the news the other night with the bottles of vaccine clearly stated on the label they contain "Thimerosol" the trade name for "Mercury" and is the very same ingredient believed by many to "contribute" to the development of autism in children. No way they will get me to take that stuff. Canada is doing what many other countries are based on actual clinical evidence, which is to advise health doses of Vitamin D. It might sound like a "cheap route" to take for them, but the evidence is clear that all patients who develop complications with this have low levels of Vitamin D. The influence of sunlight on Vitamin D levels is believed to be the reason the flu makes the rounds in normal years in cold months with less sunlight exposure in the first place. So what are you saying? that you believe its not really contagious? or that its not dangerous? What?
I'll bet the families of the people that just died don't feel the danger is being overblown. I think you were lucky and as with every disease in the world some people get lucky but a lot get sick. It seems silly to just count on being lucky when there is a vaccine to improve your odds. Personally I'd rather take something to prevent an illness than do nothing and risk getting sick just because there is a treatment. BTW The pills you are talking about were probably Tamiflu and its already been reported that there is a shortage due to the recent high demand so its likely that not everyone who gets sick will be able to get it.

How about some demographic info other than county? That means nothing. How about the physical condition of the victim? Hmmm? Were they immune compromised? Were they already ill?

How many are normal healthy people? All, none?

H1N1 is not very serious. If you get it you will at most get the symptoms of the regular flu and need to drink plenty of fluids. The media doesn't take into account for the people who die from H1N1 and have many background chronic diseases such as Heart Disease and COPD and also those older than 50.

What I want to know if what about this virus is killing these people? Is it the virus itself or are they not getting medical treatment in time and dehydrating? I've never known the flu itself to kill people, it's people that don't get treatment in time.

MKD, Does pneumonia kill people. I known people who have died of this. They were in the hospital and ready to be dismissed and suddenly they are sick again with pnuemonia. That is what is on the death certificate--cause of death.
Yes the swine flu will kill some people, too, even if they get help right away. But, cut the odds by getting help as soon as you are sick.
