I'm praying for everyone involved in this crash. Michael made 1 bad decision and now his life, and everyone around him, has changed forever. We've all made bad decisions before and gotten lucky. You're in my prayers Michael.

Michael? You must be kidding? An 18yr old innocent girl is DEAD! Due to a conscience decision to drive while intoxicated. This is as simple as "1 bad decision". Tell that to the family. The focus should be on the family not poor Michael.

Two bad decisions, this is his second offense. It seems he should have learned his lesson when he had the chance now its much too late! At least this lesson will be a lasting one if society is lucky! The families of both parties will surely suffer from this for a long while. When will this type of behavior cease?

I hope he's learned, that's all anyone could hope for. Emilee is in heaven, and theres so turning back from that. Michaels one bad decision determined that and left an entire school in tears. My heart goes out to his family, and of course, to hers.

From what I understand This is not Michael's "first bad decision". This is a second offense.

I have no sympathy for Michael. He killed an innocent young child who was going to graduate soon. I hope this has changed peoples lives and how they think. No one thinks anymore before they get into the car while drunk. We miss you Emilee. You are in our hearts forever...We know your in a beautiful place now. Love you

I am a brother of Allison who is a friend of Kelly and Mike. This is something that has hit home because of the closeness but also because we have all drank and drove at some point in our lives. I am a criminal justice major and was an intern for a police department along with being an MP. I have seen about a dozen of these incidents all resulting in someones death. I feel very sad for the family of emilee, but I feel for Mike and his family. Everyone deserves to pay for their actions, but prison is a harsh price to pay. Unfortunately their isn't another method of rehibilitation for people who make this mistake. The trial will focus everything on the death of emilee which it should, but Mike will pay a more painful price then if he would've died. The criminal system isn't perfect but it seems to work in most peoples eyes. The criminal justice system needs to find other methods of punishing people who drink and drive other then throwing them in prison with 1st degree murders, drug dealers, and Rapists. One life has been ended and another is going to be destroyed, maybe this is the answer and maybe not. Emilee and Mike will always be in my thoughts and prays.

but dont you see Phil he is a criminal, he did kill and 18 year old girl because he chose to drive drunk, so that is where he belongs, especially since this is his second offense. How many people have to be killed because someone wants to get in a car after theyve been drinking? People just dont even care anymore when there behind the wheel of a car. Yes i do agree on feeling for both sides of this family, because life will change for all of them. Ive had someone die from being the victim of a drunk driver. The government needs to crack down on this and make an example here, otherwise it will continue and loved ones will continue to die from people like mike.

Making a decision to get into your car while drunk is the same decision as pulling a trigger on a gun in my opinion, either one could kill somone, or could not. It makes me sick that this person has already had one offense, and still had a BAC of .18, from what I understand Emilee was going to be an EMT. so not only did Mike kill one life, he kill many, and for that they should throw away the key.

Emilee was a young beautiful woman,
With her whole life to live,
She had so much more to do,
And so much more to give,
That's why it's so unfair,
That she was taken away,
It was your poor judgment,
But she was the one to pay,
You made the decision,
To get behind the wheel,
You choose to drink and drive,
And the life you took was real,
Twice the legal limit,
Is what your blood alcohol read,
As you walk away unhurt,
And an innocent girl is dead,
You think you would have learned,
After all, this is your second offense,
Jail is what's waiting for you,
And you have no defense!
You took away her prom,
And her graduation day,
You took away her wedding,
And her dad giving her away,
You took away her chance,
To ever become a mother,
You took every happy moment from her,
One after another...
She had parents and a boyfriend,
And friends that loved her so,
The amount of pain you've caused,
Is more than you'll ever know.

I am Emilee's sister, Brittany, and although it has been many months since Emilee was killed and a few months since the lastest court case, the pain of this tragedy is still undeniable. I saw this comment a couple of weeks ago and I thought I wouldn't respond since it's been so long since the last person has posted and even longer since Phil posted the comment that makes me ill. The only thing I really want to point out to Phil is that yes, prison may be a harsh sentence but it is one that Michael needs. He had his chance to change the first time he was caught drinking and driving. This is Michael's second time being caught for this irresponsible action and he killed someone, my little sister. If he didn't learn the first time, it is time for a harsher sentence and if prison is the answer, so be it. Secondly, Phil stated that "Mike will pay a more painful price then if he would've died" and that Michael's life is destroyed. Guess what? MICHAEL MADE THE DECISION TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL AFTER DRINKING. It is Michael's choice that got him to where he is today. At least Michael has his life, Emilee's life is gone forever and because of that there are also hundreds of people the are living with daily pain and anguish because Emilee is gone. Michael deserves everything that he gets -- he took a life because of a CHOICE he made!

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!
Written By: Emilee's Aunt Donna

I don't understand why people drink and drive.
Why can't they just call for a ride?

I don't understand why you're not here,
everyone loves you so much my dear!

I don't understand this crazy world,
we all miss you unbelievably girl!

I don't understand what to do tomorrow,
with all of the pain and all of the sorrow.

I don't understand why you don't get a wedding day,
for your mom and your dad, I can only pray.

I don't understand all your dreams that won't be
we can only seek comfort in that your spirit is free.

I don't understand why Britt's all alone,
all she wants is for her sister to be home.

I don't understand why you were taken so fast,
from RJ your love, that was sure to last.

I don't understand why you were taken from your family and friends,
someday soon, we'll all see you again.

I don't understand why God needed you so,
only that he said "it was time to go."

I don't understand Emmi Lou...
how we will go on without you.

I just don't understand!

I believe that Michael made a choice. Every action has a reaction. He obviously didn't not learn from previous experiences and he deserves the consequences that he is suffering from his actions. He is a man and is accountable for all that he does. I do feel bad for his family. They are also suffering the consequences of their loved one. Those suffering the most are the ones who loved the victim. That is the key word VICTIM. Emilee was just driving home from work. I am sure that she was excited to get home see her family and talk to her boyfriend that she loved with all of her heart. What happened to Emilee effects more than just those who were close to her. She was obviously a beautiful young woman, inside and out. She had so much to offer the world. There are people who are in constant reminder of the pain that they feel now that she is gone. What Michael did was selfish. He knew what could happen he just didn't think that it would and because of that a young woman's life was cut short. Michael's family should understand and realize that as well as Michael. The fact that he doesn't believe that he deserves the whole sentence shows that he is still just thinking about himself. He deserves to be behind bars and honestly to work with those who are victims of drinking and driving. Emilee will be missed for years to come by those who knew her and her story will effect those who didn't.

Mike took away Emilee's graduation day. He took away her wedding day. He took away the birth of her first child. He took away her birthdays and her anniversaries. He took her away from her family and friends. They will never get her back.

He can still have all of those things he took away from her some day, and his family and friends will still have him when he's released. Whoever said that death would have been better for Mike needs to reflect on what was taken away from who here.

I hope that when this young man gets out of prison, he spends the rest of his life LIVING and being a better person, not wallowing in self-pity like those around him seem to be doing on his behalf already.
