Hazleton targeting gang issue

Mayor Barletta says his Street Crime Unit is vital and is making good progress. HAZLETON Greater Hazleton has close to 400 confirmed gang members living there, and police know who they are, where they live and the gangs with which they're affiliated.

People must rally to the effort of eliminating gangs. A Tamaqua resident, this issue concerns me greatly. The community must come together to police the activities of their family members and closest neighbors for signs of drug addiction and criminality. We can, literally, harass the gangs and dealers out of there if they know we are not scared of them, and give them no place to hide.

It is amazing how you can point out how Latinos are all scum. Yes, gangs have been an issue for our community but if you have ever read anything about how socio-cultural and socio-economic factors can influence behavior you would understand a little bit more. However, I really don't expect for you to change your mind over night. You might want to consider the influence of the KKK, Aryan Nation, and NAZI low riders to name a few when you consider scum. I don't say this because they are white but simply because you might consider how it is more than one race that contributes to the decimation of this Nation. I have had some very negative experiences as a Spanish college student in a White college, but I would never allow those experiences to instill hatred in my heart toward another human being regardless of their ethnic background.

No group should be identified by the dregs in their community. White also have big issues. As for "influences" causing crime--creating a good justification for doing wrong--I disagree highly.
I, myself, grew up in a larger city where we were very poor and lived in rough parts of town. 40% of the young men were on the wrong side of the road, but most of us were not. How come? Good, strong family influences. In my case, my grandmother touted her morals and expected me to be nothing less than a law-abiding citizen. Not wanting to disappoint her, I was able to ....WALK THROUGH FIRE...and eventually avoid fires.
Hispanics are known to have a strong grandmotherly--ABUELA--influen ces, but the Abuela can't do it alone. THe family has to support her, and here lies the problem. Families--Hispanic, European, African American, etc.--are disintegrating by raising kids with either no authoritarian rearing, OR WORSE, family member revolt against the few remaining elder authoritarians. In consequence, kids see authority as bad, something to fight.
WE ALL must bring back morality and look out for ALL KIDS, not just our own.
Hispanic kids, just like whites, are born into the world craving love and positive rearing. NO KID is born with rage and violence in his heart.
It's CHristmas. If you celebrate, and live with hate and double standards, just throw the tree in the garbage because you are going to....H_LL.(vincent price laugh)

I think what alot of us out here believe, we have plenty of our own people causing problems, we don't need mexico's trouble. Oh it is easy to say they didn't get the right kind of upbringing, but tell that to the victim's family. At some point the gangs have to put down their toys and grow up, in the working world whatever gang you are a member of - doesn't mean anything.
