I hope they put him under the jail. There is no excuse for what he did.

I couldn't defend this scum bag thug and, defense is already asking for a change of venue. I would like to see the citizens of Lousia sit on the jury.

Sometimes I believe that there is very little difference between some of these attorneys and their clients. And his guilt (or innocence) should be decided "by a jury of his peers", right? So that would be citizens of Louisa. Granted, undoubtedly the more upstanding citizens; however, "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime."

This animal deserves the maximun sentence. It makes me very angry that he was able to commit this crime. If he would have been punished properly for his prior crime sprees he would not have had his freedom and therefore would not have been able to hurt this woman.

If we were to take the phrase "jury of his peers" loosely who would that include? Not me. Maybe some other members of his ilk but no one I know. Its gonna be very interesting to see what kind of sentence this animal gets. I would hope they can never find an impartial jury in his case.

Did you see this guy laughing on the news as he was being walked to court? What is so funny about beating an elderly woman until she is blind?
When I saw him laughing I was sick to my stomach.
I hope he get's a fair just trial that gives him exactly what he deserves.PRISON!

If this scum gets anything less than life plus other consecutive sentences, it will be a travesty.

There is no place in society for pathological scum like this monster. He should be put in front of a firing squad. There is no rehabilitation for someone like this and he should not be a burden on the taxpayers. Unfortunately, he'll be out in a few years and then everyone will be oh so surprised when he kills someone next time. Here's the warning sign, people...let's see if our "justice system" can get this one right...I'm not holding my breath

I'm certainly not taking Houchens side, this comment is to all of you who want to burn him at the stake. If we didn't have defense attorney's for the accused then we sure wouldn't have much of a justice system. We'd be hanging people in the oak trees, and the vigilante groups would be wreaking havoc on everybody, it would be "kill first" don't worry about making sure the person accused is guilty. Reminds me about attitudes of people back in the 1600-1700's "witch hunt days". Oh she has a freckle, that's the devil's mark, lets thrown her in the ocean, if she drowns, she was innocent, if she floats, she's guilty.

That made me sick too. He's probably a sociopath with no sense of right and wrong, doesn't care, and sure doesn't feel any guilt. He shouldn't have been out of jail in the first place. For this crime, he deserves life

Thirty years ago people in Charlottesville routinely left their doors unlocked because society had a code of conduct and people were civilized enough to live by it.

The social apologists need to ask this woman, now at least partially blind, how things have changed during her life.

The laws NO LONGER DETER and this benefits the bar associations that profit from the revolving doors that never stop turning.

If we check the court records of the places where this guy has lived I wonder what we will learn about his track record in life thus far?

As for the fast justice of the old days it worked fine for a territory that had maybe one federal marshal for a land area several times the size of Virginia. People had no choice in many cases since there was no law and the gangs (sound familiar) were largely unchecked until the 1870's or so.

A search of the Louisa County General District Court website shows charges for EIGHT separate cases against one Remone Jilantai Houchens.

GC08007224-00, my personal favorite, shows a conviction for carrying a concealed weapon on 11/18/2008.

Everybody in this thread REALLY NEEDS to see this guy's track record.

Don't be lazy people, take the few seconds to look these guys up, otherwise you will be cheating yourselves. This is a great way to find out what the media ISN'T TELLING US!!!!!!!!!!

you see justice will never be served. Why? The court will hear his lawyer about how they wewre products of their surroundings. CRAP. If that was the case 99% of our kids over 23 could also be in the same boat.No they are just low life trash that "the way of the strees rule"
