Wow -$100 fine for a class 1 misdemeanor tresspassing conviction? Sounds like the judge was in a good mood.

And it sounds to me as though the Constitution; specifically, the First Amendment, was suspended again.

You're dead wrong. This statute under which he was arrested, charged and convicted is quite clear:

§ 18.2-119. Trespass after having been forbidden to do so; penalties.

If any person without authority of law goes upon or remains upon the lands, buildings or premises of another, or any portion or area thereof, after having been forbidden to do so, either orally or in writing, by the owner, lessee, custodian, or the agent of any such person.....he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Doesn't say anything in there about "UNLESS the accused was simply exercising his 1st amendment rights."

I'm glad to see (not mentioned by Ch29) that there were some court costs ($161) in addition to this paltry $100 fine. They also didn't mention that the obstruction of justice charge was dismissed and the disorderly conduct charge was not prosecuted. In short, he got off easy.

Coffee Shop - open to the public
Fundraiser for a public official - public event

Sounds like more Republican strong arm tactics just because they didn't want to hear what he had to say.

What exactly was his 'disorderly conduct'? Not agreeing with the Chosen One Cantor?

More reason to have more "TOMS" in Congress. He at least had his townhall meeting in public building where any person, nuts or not, could speak his/ her piece, without fear of the hand picked Stormtroopers breaking arms.

Oh, excuse me. That was his hinnyness Eric. What a waste of good air.

Single handedly, holding up the passing of a bill that earned the US a ratings cut then complained that it was the Presidents fault. Complaining about "the mob" on Wall Street being unamerican for protesting, but supporting the "tea party" right to protest Government policies.

How can any freedom loving American in their right mind support this person?
Anybody got an extra copy of the United States Constitution?

more to come

And if a Republican President is elected in 2012 or even 2016, it will be amusing to see him enthusiastically supporting most of the same proposals he is vigorously opposing now.'Course, he supported most of those same proposals before 2008 as well.

I'm certain he has only the best interests of the country at heart.

Try reading the article... private property and Cantor hadn't arrived yet. BTW if the person arrested was as witless as you, I wouldn't want to hear him anyway.

I disagree.Mr.Cantor was elected to represent and look out for the interests of ordinary people like you and me.He has aligned himself with monied corporations and enjoyed the support of the loonies that would do anything within their abilities to discredit the President. They've called him a Muslim, suggested he's not an American citizen and anything else they could think of to make him look bad. He holds FEMA assistance to disaster victims hostage to budget cuts yet begs FEMA for disaster assistance for Louisa County. His Tea Party buddies revel in their right to dissent and protest but he calls the protestors on wall street "a mob".That's the problem with this man,you never know which face he's talking with. He's an obnoxious rich lawyer and he does not represent ME.
I hope Cantor and all of the jackasses in the Congress, both Republican and Democrat alike are sent packing in the upcoming elections.Obama too.All any of them can seem to do is create a stalemate and then point the finger at the other side.America is the laughing stock of the world right now and these idiots are to blame.

I disagree, Mr. Cantor is trying to get the economy going again. What better way than to ask business for input so he can be responsive and help small business. That will generate jobs and tax revenue that our governments at all levels need.
Your anti-business rhetoric is witless if you want to get the economy back on track. But that is what is coming out of the White House these days. Our country is not the laughing stock of the world... yet.
You thoughtlessly leave out that Republicans only have a majority in the House of Representatives. The Senate and Presidency is still controlled by Democrats that haven't met a tax and spend idea they didn't like.
Want a change? Vote Republican.

I notice you offer no defense of Mr.Cantor's flip flop on FEMA or his hypocracy on the"mobs"on wall street.Sorry,I don't blindly vote for one party.I'm independent and I pay attention to what's being said as opposed to what's being done.I don't just blindly buy in to the BS that people like him propagate like you perhaps do.He's a cocky, disrespectful little jerk and I don't see where he's accomplishing anything more than Obama is.I see him as part of the problem, not the solution.
Go back and read my first post again.I'm disgusted with ALL of them,Obama included, and I'd like to see them all sent home.Too much partisan BS going on in Washington to get anything accomplished. We need new faces and new ideas.

Let me attempt to put it in a way that you will understand.

You: Knock knock.
Property owner: Come in.
You: Your congressman is a moron.
Property owner: Please leave, you are causing a scene.
You: No.
Property owner: Hello, police? A disorderly libtard in my establishment is refusing to leave even after I asked him nicely to do so.

-Siren, screeching tires outside-

Police: Place your hands behind your back; you are under arrest for refusing to leave.
You: The heck I am. Cantor is a moron. Don't touch me!
Police: Let's add obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct.
You: No kidding? But I voted for Obaaaama.
Police: Well, I sympathize, but there's no statute for stupidity.
You: Waaaah. Where are Al and Jesse when you need them?
Police: Watch your head.
-Vrooom-

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED:

You: Walk in – it’s a public place with the door open and a sign saying “We’re Open”.
Property owner: Welcome
You: I’ll have the usual breakfast combo.
Property owner: We’re not serving breakfast – leasing out my space to a bunch of desperate republitards that have no place else to go in fear of being recognized and heckled … and maybe worse.
You: I understand, how about just a cup of coffee and I'll leave?
Property owner: Better not ..the republitards are looking nervous…...... I know, Let me call my police buddy and pretend we’re hauling you off because you are starting to cause a scene. I'll score big points with these tards and they'll be back to use my place .... they pay cash. They’ll never suspect that I am a proud Dem and voted for Obama ….... please?

You: OK – but you owe me …… see you at the Cynthia Neff event

You: Waaaah. Where are Al and Jesse when you need them?

Mr. Cantor is a new face with new ideas. Trouble is you are just someone who likes to call people names and not study their positions. No defense of Mr. Cantor is necessary, he is a fiscal conservative. He stands up against Obama's tax and spend agenda that will turn us into a third world country if not opposed. You on the other hand aren't for anything but against everyone. How cynical.
Your cynicism isn't a plan for getting the economy back on track or protecting our country against terrorism or developing our own energy resources or any of a hundred other things we could do to keep this country #1 in the world.
You are a defeatist, blame everyone, but blame America first kind of guy.
C'mon lift up your eyes, there is a whole new world of potential out their if you pay attention.

What strange behavior. Most people would do anything they could to get out of an Eric Cantor fundraiser, not stay.
