If Zerby had been an abortion, a lot of money and heartache would have been avoided. As it went down, a dumb pointless drunk gets shot down, his skeezy-looking dad gets a wad of cash that he'll spend off on stupid things in a few years, and zerby's unwanted child has a trust fund waiting to help him destroy himself.

Lesson: don't have kids you don't want and/or can't afford.

This was not an easy case. Congratulations to the family and their excellent lawyers.

Summary is correct, the complete and utter irony of this case is that Zerby was an absolute loser in real life -- a drunk, evicted from his apartment, living hundreds of miles away from his young son. In terms of dollars, he was worrh more dead than alive, to the tune of $6.5 mil plus another million that will be awarded to the attorneys in a post-trial fee motion.

Exactly. I'm wondering how many parents, if they were fairly sure they could collect $6.5 million, wouldn't encourage their drunkard sons or daughters to water their lawn at midnight, calling the police, and crossing their fingers.

So who gets to take responsibility over this? Who's getting fired?

So I guess they sued over the disability payments the drunk guy would have gotten over his lifetime, especially once his kidney and liver gave out, had he not been staggering around drunk out of his mind waving a water gun at police...

Maybe better training and hiring practices by the police would lead to less time and money wasted in lawsuits, just my opinion.
