I am more surprised that he was arrested than I am about the fact that the crime was committed in the first place. At least someone around here is interested in upholding the law, even if it isn't this deputy.

The Sheriff cares for Long County and works hard to try and make Long County a safe place for families. He contributes a lot to Community events and always have a Deputy escort a funeral. And one cannot help what what a family member does, there are few that does not have a Black Sheep in the family!

You should pick up a news paper and get your facts and stop hanging out at the diner or gas stations for your information. Everything you just posted on here is nothing but small town gossip. Nothing less.

have been remembering a novelty song called "Lester Goes to Ludowici", a paean to his attempts to stop the Long County law from using their trick light to ticket Yankee tourists. It got a lot of airplay in late '69 or early '70.
Ludowici was known as a speed trap, but really, they had a trick light. There was no yellow; it just went from green to red.

Refrain: "Well that's Ludowici! On Highway 301!" A great song. Lester actually had billboards put up that said "Ludowici is a Speed Trap. Travel slow" or something like that.

I've been thinking about it, and the light was controlled by wire by a cop sitting behind the cafe (This was in the days before infra-red).
Also, the speed limit went from 65 to 25 in about 50 feet.

Yeah, first time this has ever happened in "Ludowici, on Hwy 301"
I remember, going from Jesup to Shellman's Bluff about 1969, better watch your P's and Q's:

Look at the track record for long county it speaks volumes. Crooked as hell no matter how you slice it.
Bet Preacher gets off or just a little time nothing that a regular citizen would get unless you paid someone off. That is how it works I have seen it with my own eyes . Get into the 21st century Cobb Georgia I'm sure he is ken to you or your family . I hope he turns on everyone to reduce his sentence and the key players start to fall. Let them all fall Mu HAHAHAH

There are crooked officials in EVERY county. Some just don't get caught. There's a lot of problems with the sherriff's dept and other departments but overall Ludowici is a Great place to live. A safe, caring community where everybody knows everybody, great schools, ect. Everytime I get on a website I see people whining and complaining. How about some positivity. Yes, he was wrong and should face the consequences, but unfortunately there are people who do wrong and get away with it EVERYWHERE you go. If you think Ludowici's so bad, go to walmart in Hinesville and see how much hair you come back with!! That place is overrun with RUDE ASS PEOPLE!

I resemble that remark! I live in Long County and work at the Hinesville WalMart. Guess I'm all f***** up. Your comment is no better than the one you commented on. You are grouping all of WalMart as rude.

First of all, I don't think you RESEMBLE the remark. You may RESENT it..... I didn't say anybody was f***** up. I said it was "overrun by rude ass people" That doesn't mean that everybody that works or shops there is rude. And I completely and 100% stand behind what I said, MOST of the people in Hinesville walmart are RUDE!! And that's not saying that there are not rude people in Ludowici too!!

yamammy,

Isn't it kind of ridiculous to complain about "rude ass people" while at the same time using that kind of language to describe others?

while I may say "Ass" once in awhile, I ALWAYS say yes sir, no ma'am, excuse me, please and thank you. I respect my elders at all times and anyone else around me, unless they give me reason not to. I'm a curteous driver, not only in my car but also with my shopping cart. I make my children behave without screaming, yelling and threatening to whip them every 5 seconds. So it may seem rediculous to you, but to me it's perfectly acceptable to call it like I see it.

And there are a lot of fine people from Hinesville. It's not necessarily Hinesville I'm referring to, because I don't know where the people in walmart are from. I just know Jesup Walmart is a lot less stressful to me because I've never had to deal with rude people there. Again, that doesn't mean there are NOT rude people in Jesup. My comments are strictly from MY point of view and unlike a lot of people on these blogs I don't need anyone to agree with me and I'm not gonna lose any sleep if you don't.

Personally, I think there is a lot more to good manners than saying "yes ma'am and no ma'am," sir, etc, and saying "please and thank you." A hallmark of good manners is the ability to make others feel comfortable, which would include being friendly and welcoming. Jesup, Hinesville and Ludowici are certainly not friendly, welcoming places.

I also think that it is more important to stand up for justice than it is to offer signs of fake deference. The fact that officials of this county conduct themselves as they do and the people here stick up for them, all the while knowing about it, says a lot that is not good about the character of ludowici and long county.
