Convicted felon wants his state pension reinstated

A former Logan County sheriff ensnared in a sweeping federal probe of election fraud in Southern West Virginia wants his state pension back.

his retirement - he worked for it. at least when he was sheriff I felt safe. I say give it to him. Sure he committed a crime but not against the people of Logan County - just a little paper to get in office. Sheesh. At least he was honest when he was in.

I think he deserves it as well.. The "Crime" he committed didn't hurt the first person in Logan county. Personally I think we need to worry more about the drugs and real "Crimes" being committed in the county other than something like someone buying votes.

What is wrong with this county? My god, a man admits that he committed a crime. A crime I may add that was a felony, could have resulted in prison time and you say give him the pension. He bought VOTES, the only real right you have as a citizen. Your voice as to who leads you!!! I guess that all the soldiers that have died through the years died in vain! When your elected leaders don't do what's in your best interest then you vote them out not give them a pat on the back!!!!! Don't you realize that the reason we don't have industry and infrastructure that is needed for factories and such is because the elected leaders know they can do what they want and not have to worry about being voted out. They just ante up a dollar and a swaller for the votes. And don't give me the coal mine crap either. We have plenty of room for factories and such right here in this county!!!! Coal built the county but it won't last forever!!! We need new jobs with new industry to keep our heads above water.

WHO hasn't paid to be elected in this USA. Logan county has ALWAYS bought votes. My God buying a vote NEVER killed anyone like buying drugs for the druggie and the state buys them drugs daily.

Johnny Mendez is a childhood friend of mine a very decent human who HELPPED the people of LOGAN CO. Give the man his money he earned it or else TAKE everyone elses pension that was elected by the people because they ALL did shady deals.

While Mr. Mendez might have been a good sheriff, he was a sheriff fraudulently. I agree that we need to weed out all the dirty politicians, but we shouldn't let it slide just because only one got caught.

Every penny he made, he made illegally, because the votes he received for office were obtained illegally. Therefore, I feel since they haven't made him back up and pay for wages received under false pretenses, he shouldn't push the issue of his pension. He doesn't deserve any of the benefits of retirement.

the language used in his "crime" get thrown around pretty careless. big john has never needed to buy a vote. he never bought his votes. the bs they pinned on him had nothing to do with HIS votes. he didnt obtain his job by fraud. he either touched or had knowledge of money changing hands for other peoples votes. john was always the top vote getter in the county. johnny has never had the type of money it took to buy votes. the amount of votes he got each election couldnt have been bought by bill gates. he was very well liked. if johnny was allowed to run for office again he would win without passing a dollar.

Well, regardless of how he was involved, he was in fact involved and never said a word. The thing is, when you screw up and break the law, your rights do not apply anymore in some areas. If he had broken the law in a way that did not affect his job, by all means give him his pension, but his job as sheriff was involved with his crime, therefore making all benefits of said job null and void in my opinion, plain and simple. If I work in a hospital, and receive certain health benefits through that hospital, then I am caught helping someone embezzel money from that same hospital, should the hospital still pay for my coverages? No.

How did he help the people when he was a party to vote fraud? He helped the people into more dispair and poverty by not standing up to the people who would have the citizens sold into slavery. One of the previous posts stated 'who hasn't paid to be elected?' Don't you think that its time to stop this crap? That's why the US is crumbling and having to bail out the banks and loan companies as well as the auto makers because of the greed and graft thats gone on for years. Why doesn't Logan County take a stand and be the place where vote buying ISN'T tolerated? No one is DUE anything! That's whats wrong with the US, everyone thinks they are entitled to a living or a retirement. Earn it the honest way and you don't have to worry about the gov't. taking it away!!!! You aren't even entitled to your next breathe but only by the grace of God do you get it.
And the reason every politician cheats is because the people allow it to happen. Change starts one candidate at a time. Have you noticied how the republicans or the democrats blame the other party for the country's problems? Its a scam to keep the people stirred up so they don't look past the petty politics and see that its the politicians who create the problems. They were elected to represent the citizens of this country and to work with each other. If they aren't gonna do that, then they need replaced. Its like the actor said in the movie, There's only the haves and the have nots!!!!!!!! And the politicians want to line their pockets through graft. And as long as the american people keep sucking up to politicians and don't hold them accountable, that's how long it will contine.

Take everybody pension away then since nobody earned it. Taypayers vote people in office knowing their faults they believe everything they say so take Johnny's penison all the way up to BUSH..
