A woman at the center of a 2007 racially charged sexual-assault and torture case in West Virginia is recanting her story, but she is afraid to come forward publicly, her attorney said yesterday.

Courts are justifiably skeptical of recanted testimony -- this isn't likely to change anything. But Mr. Potts has shown a talent for getting in front of a camera.

Another wonderful example of our legal system, whereby "poor" people are given run of the mill attorneys who don't do the proper investigation to prove or disprove another person's story. If they had investigated and found her "slow" that might have had some bearing on the case, also her need to embellish could have been brought out, self-inflicted wounds, etc. All of this could have somehow been proven and cast doubt in the case. Poor people never get decent representation/investigation. And look at it, only poor people ever get the death penalty. The rich ones don't.

first of all, whoever wrote this story doesnt have a clue how to write a damn story. how about filling us in on the earlier story before you get to the end of this one, idiot!! second, if she had a boyfriend who would give her 2 black eyes, is it that far of a stretch to think maybe he has some disturbed friends also?? they all confessed to it, and she isnt all the way right in the head, so for whatever reason she is saying that theyre innocent u can probably chalk up to mental issues. normally i would crucify any chic who gets innocent dudes thrown in jail. but i think its pretty obvious they did it.
